GEOMAGNETIC STORM UNDERWAY NOW: A moderately strong G2-class geomagnetic storm is underway now (Aug. 7-8) as Earth feels the effects of an unexpected solar wind stream. During G2-class storms, naked-eye auroras can descend as far south in the USA as New York and Idaho (geomagnetic latitude 55 deg).
