According to the Post-Courier newspaper on 11 March, the National Broadcasting Corporation in Bougainville has commissioned major infrastructure upgrades at its local regional station in Buka.
The NBC is commissioning a 50-meter transmission tower including a 2 kilowatt FM transmitter, a 60 kilowatt generator and a four door Toyota Landcruiser. The NBC is seeking to expand its coverage into all regions regions of Bougainville.
According to the story, NBC Bougainville is now able to cover the entire island of Buka and surrounding islands and most parts of North Bougainville on the east coast right down to the land border with Central Bougainville at Tinputz.
Further improvements are planned to extend service to South Bougainville with the building of a mediumwave transmitter.
