Closure of RNE mediumwave transmitters 30th December
“Radio Nacional de España (RNE) will switch off its AM signal in the early hours of December 30th at 3:00 AM [0200 UTC], having provided this service since 1937. Despite these changes, listeners can remain connected to their favourite radio station without disrupting their habits or routines. There are several alternatives for listening to all RNE programmes on any device and from anywhere.”
“Despite this shutdown, RNE will continue broadcasting normally on FM, DAB+, and the RNE Audio platform , without interruption and with all of our signature programming. The farewell to AM will not mean the disappearance of our content, but rather a transition to more efficient, accessible listening systems with higher sound quality.”

RNE operates around 100 MW transmitters on these frequencies:
RNE 1 on 576, 585, 612, 621, 639, 648, 684, 693, 729, 738, 774, 801, 855, 972 kHz.
RNE 5 on 531, 558, 567, 576, 603, 657, 720, 747, 909, 936, 1017,1098, 1107, 1125, 1152, 1305, 1314, 1413, 1503 kHz.
There will still be plenty of Spanish private stations to hear on MW after 30th from Cope, SER, Onda Cero and a few others, but the closure of so many high-power RNE transmitters will certainly be noticeable at night in the UK.
