Some clarification is required here in respect to the Auckland stations. (See https://mediumwave.info/2026/05/07/new-zealand-46/)
Some of the listed stations are just temporarily off air.
A project to replace the 2 ageing masts at Henderson with a single new mast began on 16 April and is targeted to be all finished by 15 May.
Since 16 April, all 15 AM stations using those antenna masts have been off air during the daytime, and a limited number reactivated overnight. My understanding is that at least 3 stations are already operating on the newly erected Northern Mast: RNZ National 756, Parliament/Sanctuary 882 and NewsTalkZB 1080. I am also hearing Apna 990 tonight.
Because the new mast is expected to only host 9 stations, the expectation is that at least 6 depart AM altogether.
Already confirmed permanently off are:
531PI on 531, 810 BBC World Service, Gold Sport 1332 and Sport Nation 1476.
Humm 702 is thought to be off permanently as they have an existing FM outlet – 104.2, but I have not seen any official statement from them.
The following stations are, at this stage, just off AM temporarily:
Waatea 603, Chinese Voice 936, Ake 1179, Rhema 1251, Tarana 1386 and Radio Samoa 1593. So we think only 1 of this group will miss out on a slot on the new mast.
Elsewhere in NZ, the following have been missed by DXers recently:
Rhema Timaru 594 and Rhema Invercargill 1404 – these are presumed to be temporary absences.
