China

For decades, international broadcasts from Beijing were broadcast via the medium wave installation at Ürümqi [a.o.1521 kHz/Ed] all the way to Europe. That could be over now.
Since original information on such topics cannot be obtained, only a collection of reception observations compiled by the British DX Club remains. Accordingly, the large medium waves in Hutubi, about 60 km northwest of Ürümqi, seem to have not been active for months. (Google translation from German)

North Macedonia

The last remaining medium wave in North Macedonia [810 kHz] has failed at least since August 14, 2021. According to gossip from the region, the cause in this case is external.

Accordingly, the transformer station of the broadcasting station Ovce Pole was damaged by bush fires. The repair or replacement of the destroyed system parts is solely in the hands of EVN Makedonija, the responsible network operator.

This would mean that the medium wave would be as good as empty during the day in Thessaloniki as well. The stations on 972 and 1368 kHz, which can still be heard quite well there, are two of the medium wave pirates who are practically permanently active in Greece and ignored by the authorities.

On my radio I can receive very good this transmitter at daytime and also at nighttime. Because the power of this transmitter is very more than only 1 Watt!

Ireland

Ireland’s Longwave Radio RTÉ 252 Is Back on the Air.
Thanks to reader Paul Bailey I’ve recently been alerted that Ireland’s long-running longwave (LW) radio station RTÉ 252 is back on the air, after a period of maintenance beginning in June of this year. The service rebroadcasts public broadcaster RTÉ Radio 1, reaching longer distances than the mediumwave AM band – no longer in use by RTÉ – and the FM band.

Bicoastal Media has swapped dial positions for its two AMs in Longview WA.

Conservative Talk/Sports 1400 KEDO Longview has moved to 1270, while Classic Country “Real Country” KBAM makes the reverse shift.

The move, as with most AM changes now, was done to improve the translator signals for each station. With the move to 1400, KBAM is now tied to 99.1 K256CQ Longview giving it the 250w/181m signal. KEDO moves its FM signal to new sign-on 99.9 K260DH Longview with 70w/-139m. Bicoastal has not yet set plans for KBAM’s former 93.5 K228FA Longview with its 100w/189m signal.
