LW from Roumoules? (
Is that 2000 Central European summer time? Strange, that I don’t have the faintest carrier here in Finland at 1800 UTC. Maybe not full power.

Mauno Ritola to MWlist iog (2022-08-13)

Yes indeed, CEST, local time here in Belgium (and France) – so just before and after 1800 UTC. Reception certainly wasn’t as strong as I thought it would be, but having never listened to regular RMC broadcasts on this radio, I can’t very accurately compare.

RMC testing (?) on longwave again.
I was pleasantly surprised to stumble across RMC (216 kHz from Roumoules, France) again tonight on my car radio, just outside of Brussels, Belgium. Reception not as good as RTL or RTÉ further up the band, but still pretty easy to understand.

I tried my best to capture the reception on my cellphone. Here are two videos that I took:

Radio Caroline is looking for £500,000 to refurbish the Ross Revenge “finally and thoroughly”. If that does not work within a reasonable period of time, the ex-pirate threatens to have to give up his historic radio ship.

August 14 remains a very special date in British radio history and Radio Caroline has been using this information for several years to organize a fundraising. This year’s annual four-day fundraiser will run on Radio Caroline and Caroline Flashback until midnight UK time, Monday, August 15, and on Radio Caroline North, live from MV Ross Revenge, until closing on Sunday, August 14.

Anyone who donates £30 or more or becomes a member of the Radio Caroline Support Group will receive a special limited edition retro t-shirt based on Radio Caroline’s famous 60’s car sticker. The income from this year’s fundraiser will be split between two major projects.

The first is to install solar panels at the Orfordness transmitter site to power the AM station on 648 kHz. Not only will Caroline be the first completely ‘green’ radio station in this way, it is also intended to better withstand the unpredictable price increases of electricity. The majority of the electricity supply on the Ross Revenge is now also realized via solar panels.

But the second project, also the biggest challenge in the coming years, will be raising funds to finally get the Ross Revenge into dry dock. “Without urgent, extensive repairs, the future of our historic radio ship is very uncertain,” said Caroline.

“Our volunteers have worked tirelessly to maintain the ship for many years, but the work required now is beyond our capabilities. The Ross needs to come out of the water and undergo a thorough overhaul.”

To realize this, the new charity ‘Ross Revenge Home Of Radio Caroline’ was created. The target is to raise £500,000 and then apply for a grant and other funding.

For Radio Caroline, the rescue of the ship is a matter of vital importance. “Without our ship, we also lose vital revenue from our incredibly popular tours and live offshore broadcasts.”

Lithuanian radio station to inform Russian speakers about war in Ukraine.

VILNIUS – A radio station in Lithuania resumed its operation in early August and will use medium-range waves to rebroadcast the Russian-language radio station Radio Pravda for Russian speakers in Europe and Asia, including Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.

Speaking with BNS on Friday, Valdas Kaminskas, a spokesman for the Lithuanian Radio and Television Center (Telecentras), said the radio station in Sitkunai, Kaunas District, central Lithuania, had largely stopped broadcasting around a decade ago, but now resumed broadcasts in early August at the request of the Netherlands-registered radio station Radio Pravda. Information and educational information is broadcast every day, using medium-range radio waves, from 8 pm to midnight to reach listeners in Europe and even Asia.

“These are broadcasts for Russian-speaking audiences, the waves travel far, the broadcasts are evening broadcasts and the program is broadcast from 8 pm to midnight. As they say now, broadcasts are aimed against disinformation, against war, to compensate for Russian anti-Ukrainian propaganda. These radio broadcasts are mainly intended for this purpose”, Kaminskas said.

In his words, broadcasts reach Ukraine, Belarus, the European part of Russia, but the signal goes even beyond the Urals, reaching Siberia, Central Asia and Kazakhstan.

In preparation for the broadcasts, Telecentras rebuilt and upgraded part of the infrastructure of the long-disused Sitkunai radio station.

The radio station near Kaunas came online in 1950 and then played a major role during the January, 1991 events when Soviet troops occupied the Lithuanian Radio and Television building and the TV Tower in Vilnius as it was temporarily used to broadcast news and images to the whole world.

The station stopped broadcasting medium-wave program in 2003 and continued to broadcast short-wave programs for some time before suspending operation completely around eight years ago.

Lithuania will start broadcasting a Russian-language, Netherlands-registered radio station, Radio Pravda, which will be accessible to audiences in Russia, Belarus, and elsewhere.
“These are broadcasts for Russian-speaking audiences, the waves travel far, and the programme is broadcast from 20:00 to midnight,” Valdas Kaminskas, a spokesperson for the Lithuanian Radio and Television Centre (Telecentras), told BNS.
“The broadcasts are aimed against disinformation, against war, to compensate for Russia’s anti-Ukrainian propaganda,” he added. The programme will be picked up as far as Siberia, Central Asia and Kazakhstan, according to Kaminskas.
Radio Pravda will be broadcast from Sitkūnai in central Lithuania.

The Sitkūnai radio station originally came online in 1950 and then played a major role during the January 1991 events. In their attempts to topple the Lithuanian government, which had declared in March 1990, Soviet troops occupied the Lithuanian Radio and Television building and the TV Tower in Vilnius.
Lithuania’s broadcasts then moved temporarily to the Sitkūnai station. It ceased broadcasting medium-wave programmes in 2003 before being shut down entirely eight years ago.

I checked last night on 1557 KHz, Kix Country Radio was the dominating signal on this frequency in Sydney at my QTH. There was no ToH ID at midnight (!). Caught the ID later.

Otherwise no signs of the Taiwan powerhouse [1557 kHz / Ed] were observed.

Tomas, VK2CCC to ICDX-AM iog (2022-08-11)

I’m guessing KIX 1557 didn’t ID at the TOH (AEST) because they’d be on South Australian time (1130 when 1200 here).
