Latest Radio Times has an article Calling Listeners on Long Wave starting No it’s not as April Fool hoax, from April 1st will no longer be broadcasting some programmes seperately on Radio 4 long wave while others go out on FM. That’s not to say your trusty transistor radio will be more and more redundant as the long wave platform won’t be closing for a while yet…..

The BBC first began broadcasting on long wave from 1925 from a transmitter in Daventry Northamptonshire. Today three transmitters, owned by private firm Arqiva, broadcast on long wave and Arqiva say “significant further investment” would be needed to continuing doing so after 36 years of energy intensive operation.
