567, Lao National Radio (National Service), 0000 UT, Dec 30, via Kiwi SDR remote at Dimapur, India. A very good day for LNR reception! Mixing with the sign on of Akashvani Dibrugarh (India), but LNR holding up fairly well; brief indigenous theme music; distinctive bell/gong rang seven times (7AM in Laos); followed by the choral National Anthem.
My remote audio – https://app.box.com/s/nfgu6qgzjg0ccmtfkk10viu79lgrxia8 . Always enjoy listening to the 0000 and 1200 UT format from LNR!

Closure of BBC LW service?
OFGEM have advised us that the Radio Teleswitch service is due to end on 30 June 2025:
https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/information-consumers/energy-advice-households/replacing-your-radio-teleswitch-electricity-meter.
Does this mean that programmes will also cease on LW after this date? This seems very sad from a nostalgia point of view, though the technology is completely redundant. Is the Shipping Forecast likely to continue for the onshore audience who like to fall asleep to its gentle monologue?

Radio 4 are doing a Shipping Forecast Day on New Year’s Day when they will discuss it’s future.
Mervyn Mugford to tx-list iog (2024-12-29)
The latest date is all very fine, but the fact is that energy suppliers are making glacial progress with teleswitch replacement.
If I were a betting man, which I am not, I would bet that the date will be extended yet again.
As for BBC, I expect that getting rid of the LW shipping forecast will be their next step.
They might then discontinue R4 LW, saving a bit of money to go towards their other platforms.

“Sadly the low power transmitter is faulty and I’m unable to repair it. I’ve been let down on the 1kW transmitter and it is still not here.
I’m urgently looking for another transmitter.
Apologies the station will be on air as soon as I can find a transmitter.”
