Radio Liberty was observed with their Russian programming in progress on Viesintos transmitter 1386kHz at 07:50UT on Saturday 20 December 2025. On air at 05:30-08:30 daily, according to the ‘How to Listen’ guide on the Radio Liberty website (svoboda.org). I seem to recall this was first reported some months ago and though it’s in WRTH app it isn’t currently on MW List.

Thanks, yes, that has been forgotten. Foreign service transmissions also on medium wave have seasonal and other frequent changes and the foremost source for them is WRTH Web App.

After shutting off 20 stations earlier this year, Cumulus Media is adding another one before the year is up.

Adult Standards 1280 WNAM Neenah-Menasha/Appleton WI will sign-off at midnight on December 31 ending a 78 year operation. Currently running Westwood One’s Standards network, the station had served as home of the Wisconsin Timber-Rattlers baseball team since 2009. Those games will move to Cumulus Conservative Talk 1490 WOSH/93.9 W230DB Oshkosh.

Cumulus Appleton Market Manager John Rowe said, “Cumulus Media is excited to continue our longstanding relationship with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers for 2026. With the games being moved to 93.9FM and 1490AM WOSH, we’ll be rooting for the team along with the fans as we provide coverage for all 132 games on AM and now FM radio, as well as streaming options through 1490WOSH.COM, the WOSH app and Alexa and Google smart speakers.”

WNAM operates with 5kW directional utilizing a four tower array.

WNAM shared the following message on its website:
It’s hard to believe that WNAM 1280 AM first took to the airwaves on March 23, 1947 , more than 78 years ago. Since that day, we’ve had the privilege of being a trusted voice in your homes, cars, and workplaces. From timeless music and unforgettable personalities to vital storm coverage and community connection, WNAM has been more than just a radio station—it’s been a part of the fabric of our lives.

Over the decades, we’ve celebrated milestones, weathered storms, and shared countless moments with you, our loyal listeners. We’ve helped drive customers to local businesses, delivered breaking news, and hopefully made a small but meaningful difference in your day.

It has been our honor to serve as stewards of this legacy. However, after careful consideration, we must share that WNAM 1280 AM will cease broadcasting on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at midnight. This difficult decision comes in response to evolving listener habits and economic realities that have reshaped the media landscape.

To our listeners and advertisers—thank you. Your unwavering support over the past 78 years has meant everything to us. You made WNAM a part of your daily routine, and for that, we are deeply grateful.

For our dedicated fan base, we’re pleased to share that coverage of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers will continue on our sister station, WOSH 1490 AM.

Radio legend Ira Glass once said, “In radio, you have two tools: sound and silence.” For more than seven decades, WNAM’s sound has echoed across the region, connecting generations. Now, as we prepare to gently fade into silence, we do so with pride in what we’ve built—and with heartfelt thanks to every employee who helped make WNAM a beacon of local broadcasting.

Please continue to tune in as we honor our final days on the air. From all of us at WNAM 1280 AM—thank you for listening.

Today WNAM-1280 Neenah-Menasha, Wisconsin announced it will cease operation at midnight on December 31.
It gets out well and been heard in a number of European countries. A number of years ago it had a webpage all about DX with a list of people reporting hearing it; in some cases with links to the audio files submitted. That’s all gone.
Maybe it would be open to do a DX test before signing off. If nothing else if you need it consider paying special attention to 1280. It’s 5 kW full time DA-2.

A Swedish DX-er, Lars Jeppesen, got this reply from RNE Alicante the 9:th of December. Could it indicate that the closing date could be changed?

“Dear Lars,
We confirm receipt of your message.
A few months ago, RNE ordered a reduction in its AM broadcast power. The closure of these broadcasts was scheduled for December 31, 2025.
Thanks to public pressure, the President of RTVE has assured us that these broadcasts will not be shut down until all the commissioned feasibility studies are completed.
However, he has not committed to not closing them.
Given that this is a necessary public service, I am forwarding you a petition for signatures, in case you would like to sign it against the closure of our AM broadcasts.
https://www.change.org/p/salvemos-la-onda-media-de-rne
I have attached a document with our broadcast frequencies by province and your QSL card.
It’s a shame that the younger generations aren’t keeping up their passion for radio. May radio never die.”

After announcing the $435,000 sale of “Your Country 99.3” WCLC Van Buren and CHR “Star 106.9” WXXC Marion IN to Taylor University Broadcasting last month, Hoosier AM/FM has signed off Sports 860 WMRI and Oldies 1400 WBAT/105.5 W288DN Marion.
In a Silent STA filed with the FCC, the company notes that both stations have ceased operations following the loss of its studio lease. Hoosier AM/FM says it is exploring options for the stations to resume operations.
Hoosier AM/FM principles Bruce Danziger, Burton Barlow and Keith Thomas also own three stations in Kokomo IN, where a sale to 3 Towers Broadcasting was announced in July 2024, but never filed with the FCC. 3 Towers is operating AC “Z92.5” WZWZ Kokomo and “Rock 98.5” WMYK Peru under a Time Brokerage Agreement, while 1350 WIOU Kokomo is silent. They also own Vox AM/FM, which owns five stations in the Burlington VT/Plattsburgh NY area.
