In previous years, Polish Radio aired two-minute news programmes in English in June and July at 9:06, 10:06 and 11:06 on a.o. 225 kHz. This year however, Polish Radio will not be broadcasting news in foreign languages on its domestic networks.

Radio a Colori, from Bologna (Italy), has been reactivated on 1602 kHz.
Weak from Forlì, 60 km from the station, but readable: possibly a power increase, or back to initial level after a long period of lower power.
Heard in Forlì with Perseus22 and Wellbrook ALA-1530.

WRCR ends longtime programming during pending sale.
The station is being bought out by WABC-New York Radio’s parent company, Red Apple Media. The sudden closure of a decades-old AM radio station in Rockland County marks the end of an era during the pending sale of the once longtime community staple.

WRCR AM 1700 in Garnerville stopped broadcasting earlier this month. The station is being bought out by WABC-New York Radio’s parent company, Red Apple Media.

The Garnerville-based station traces back to the 1960s and survived several moves, frequency changes and the changing media landscape – but it’s beloved hyper-local programming, including a morning drive show, political broadcasts and nostalgic programs like its doo-wop show, kept many Rocklanders tuned in.

“We made Arbitron. I don’t think that’s ever been done for a local AM radio station,” says former morning show host Steve Possell. “That’s how many people were listening.

Arbitron, now Nielsen, tracks viewer and listenership in media.
Possell, who is blind, worked at the station for more than 50 years and retired in 2021 when he says older, tactile media he worked on could no longer be repaired and was swapped out for digital equipment.
When asked if he thinks the station’s closure is an end of an era, Possell quickly answered, “Yep. Radio itself is in trouble. It just doesn’t have the flair that it once had.”
News 12 reached out to WRCR’s longtime owner Alexander Medakovich for comment and a representative for Red Apple Media but did not receive a response.
Legal documents obtained by News 12 show Red Apple Media is purchasing the station for $600,000.

WABC is now broadcasting on AM 1700’s airwaves and is no longer broadcasting the station’s regular local programming.
The change has prompted a slew of reaction on social media, including a post from state Sen. Bill Weber about being “disappointed” after his own show was canceled.
As for Possell, he hopes the new owners will eventually bring back the content so many folks skipped modern media for when they tuned in.
“Keep it local,” he says, “because that’s what made WRCR.”

ERT is increasing to 9 active transmission centres in the middle frequencies. It almost completely shut down the relay network. Together with the K.E. of Boyatiou, Corfu, and Tripoli, the networks of Megara, Malgara, Souda (already from Tuesday), Rhodes, Zakynthos, and Komotini are also reconnected, as shown in the map below.

ERT increases its active broadcasting centres in the medium wave to 9.

Abolishing a previous decision of hers that nearly shut down the entire relay network.
May 29, 2025

One day after the reoperation of the medium wave transmitter of ERT Chania in Souda, the management of public radio and television proceeded with the reactivation, essentially, of its AM relay network. With a decision signed by the CEO of ERT, Konstantinos Papavassiliou, titled “Strategic Plan for National Radio Coverage in the Medium Wave Band (AM), for use in cases of national emergencies,” the active medium wave transmission centres are now increasing to 9.
Specifically, along with the K.E. of Boyatiou, Corfu, and Tripoli, they are re-entering the network there in Megara, Malgara, Souda (already since Tuesday), Rhodes, Zakynthos, and Komotini, as shown in the map below:

Furthermore, with yesterday’s decision, all previous regulations that governed the use of EPT’s medium-wave transmission centres are abolished. Like the one that was made in December 2021, with the signature of the then CEO of the Organisation, Giorgos Gampritsos, who maintained and upgraded only the transmitters in Boyati, Corfu, and Tripoli, and dismantled all the others.

The EPT relay network in the medium waveband suffered a major blow in the previous decade, especially after the “black” of 2013. Not only with the deactivation of the transmitters but also with the looting that followed, as had happened, for example, in Megara where Filia on 666 and EPA Sport on 981 were operating until then.

Antena Satelor has been missing from 153 kHz for a few days. The modulation was low and distorted here during the previous 1-2 years.

Another observation: Radio Timisoara on 630 and Radio Oltenia on 1314 kHz going off air every day at 22:00 local time (1900 UTC)

SURPRISINGLY STRONG GEOMAGNETIC STORM: NOAA predicted a minor geomagnetic storm. It turned out to be strong instead. A co-rotating interaction region (CIR) hit Earth on May 29th, sparking a G3-class geomagnetic storm. CIRs are transition zones between fast- and slow-moving streams of solar wind. They contain CME-like shock waves that do a good job sparking geomagnetic storms and auroras.
