Argentina

Translated from Spanish:
Over the last few months, we have repeatedly referred to the significant decrease in the number of AM radio stations in Argentina, particularly in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA). This time, it is the turn of a station that broadcast from the town of Lobos, specifically RADIO ANTENA (AM 1560 KHz). The city of Lobos is a small town and the capital of the Buenos Aires district of the same name, located just 98 km from the city of Buenos Aires. It is characterised by being a rich and fertile agricultural area, notable for its dairy industry and dairy products. On 8 September 2008, the first AM radio station in the region, RADIO ANTENA, began broadcasting there. The station operated on the 1560 KHz frequency and was created by Mr Oscar Agustín Gardenal, a true leader in communication in that city. At that time, Gardenal had been organising musical and cultural events in the area for some time and felt the need for a station that would report on local events. The station had its studios at 23 Aristóbulo del Valle Street, Telephone: (02227) 42-1211, E-mail: info@amradioantena.com and website: www.amradioantena.com. It broadcast with a 1 kW M31 transmitter, and its transmission plant was located on Provincial Route No. 41, Km. 169, Cuartel ‘Las Chacras’, on the outskirts of the city of Lobos (Coordinates: 35°08’56.7‘S, 59°08’29.1’W), where a 60-metre-high omnidirectional antenna was located. It should be noted that RADIO ANTENA was registered in the Media Census implemented by Resolution No. 001-AFSCA/2009. The station remained in regular operation until the last quarter of 2022, when it went off the air as a result of the death of its founder and general director, Mr Gardenal, on 3 November 2022, at the age of 90.

Açores

Re.: https://mediumwave.info/2024/11/21/azores-2/
Two weeks ago, I visited the island of Flores in the Azores. I went up to Monte das Cruzes to take a closer look at the antennas for RDP‘s Antena 1 and RDP Açores, both of which broadcast on 828 kHz.
I had brought my Qodosen DX-286 with me to check out the transmitter. I was very disappointed when there was nothing to be heard on the frequency. Neither when I stood next to the masts nor when I listened from the town of Santa Cruz das Flores.
Does anyone know if the transmitter is temporarily out of service or if it has been shut down for good?

Lithuania

I listened to the BBC from Viesintos on 1386 kHz tonight, and apart from a short announcement in Russian at the beginning, it was all in English – Sports from 18:30 to 19:00, and then Newshour. That appears to be the program format every night.

BBC Via LTU 1386, Greek pirate QRM.
I haven’t checked it yet myself, but I understand that the BBCWS slot on 1386 at 2000-2100 is now a mix of English and Russian.

I haven’t yet heard Russian except for the start announcement at 1830.

Norway

Translated from Norwegian:
From the FBK Board:
Regarding broadcast time on the AM medium wave transmitter at 1314 kHz [Bergen Kringkaster].
At its meeting on 3 June 2025 (Item 19.5), the FBK Board decided to divide the broadcasting time on our AM/medium wave transmitter (callsign LLE-2, licence 1 kW 1314 kHz, 228 metres) per day into three parts. The new programme format will start no later than 1 September 2025. Some interruptions in the programme stream must be expected until further notice.
The station has also recently been operating at reduced power and is currently out of service due to a fault in the antenna. The board is looking into the matter.
Daytime hours will be set aside for ‘major rentals’ to established broadcasters (subject to approval by the Norwegian Media Authority) for a fee*), and FBK members with a licence will be allocated airtime in the evening. To date, there have been no regular broadcasts at night. Here, too, ‘major’ rentals will have priority.
-Allocation of any unused airtime:
Any unused airtime will be announced on the email list and Facebook with an application deadline of 14 days and will be allocated free of charge to paying members of FBK with companies upon justified application. A content licence must be applied for from the Norwegian Media Authority and a rental agreement must be made with FBK before broadcasts with your own external programme stream under your own editorial responsibility (cf. the Editor’s Charter) can begin. The deadline for commencement is another 14 days. We are generally unable to handle the broadcasting of individual programmes.
Other parts of the decision package:
-The current programme rotation will be stopped, but FBK programmes of the type ‘Bergen Kringkaster på farten’ will be retained at fixed broadcast times. The same applies to old radio recordings from Bernt Erfjord’s collection.
-Any material from the facility owner Askøy Municipality, but without interfering with the local radio station Radio Askøy. Fixed broadcast times.
-‘Dead air’ must be avoided.
-New reserve programme streams if Bergen Kringkaster’s programme goes down.
-The board notes that these currently have content licences on 1314 kHz apart from ourselves:
LAKRI/Laksevåg Kringkaster
BAS/Radio Kontakt
Questions and applications from interested FBK members regarding the use of any unused broadcasting time can be sent to our email address by Wednesday 7 July 2025 at 12:00:
styret2025 (at)bergenkringkaster.no
addressed to FBK’s Chair and Editor-in-Chief Svenn Martinsen.
*)Possibly combined with other broadcasts, such as FBK’s original plan for veteran radio.
**)The hourly rate (currently NOK 10) should be maintained for external users, but negotiation is possible. Consideration of an increase in the hourly rate.

Pakistan

Radio Pakistan Peshawar goes silent for 6 days over unpaid Rs 20 million power bill.
Radio Pakistan’s Peshawar broadcasting center has been off-air for the past six days due to non-payment of electricity bills. The high-power transmitter located in Chugalpura was disconnected by Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO), effectively halting AM [1260 kHz] and shortwave radio broadcasts in the region.
