GIANT SUNSPOT ALERT: Is this the December surprise? A very large sunspot group is emerging over the sun’s southeastern limb, one of the largest of Solar Cycle 25. NASA’s Mars rover saw it first last week, and now it is turning toward Earth. Full story with observing tips @ Spaceweather.com.

The “all time” spreadsheet link is here and works.  Note that “all time” has many gaps but not enough to make it completely worthless. There is a big gap from 1970-01-31 to 1990-09-30.  Peak seems to have
been in 1991 with 4990 stations.  We’re down 647 since then.

Larson-Wynn flipped Classic Country 1440 KODL/99.1 K256AC /100.7 K264DF The Dalles OR to News/Talk on Wednesday.
The move fills the Talk hole in the area created by Bicoastal Media’s flip of 1300 KACI/103.9 K280FJ The Dalles to Country “103.9 The Hawk” KTDS in September.
[….]
The station will continue to carry local high school and Oregon State University sports as well as Seattle Seahawks football. https://radioinsight.com/headlines/322738/kodl-flips-to-talk/

DX Central / MW Frequncy Challenge – Season 5, Week 8 (1470 & 1480 kHz).
Using our data once again from our “All-Season Data Analysis” project, (now available for all DXers to use at https://dxchallenges.com/resources/mwfcdataanalysis/) we zero in on two frequencies for our next challenge: 1470 and 1480.
Heading into this challenge, 61% (1480) and 63% (1470) of US-based stations have been reported by DXers through our previous MW Frequency Challenge efforts since 2021. These are two of the least “covered” frequencies in our data set.

Let’s fix that this week!
This challenge will be open from 0200 UTC on Saturday, November 29, 2025 through 0200 on Saturday, December 6, 2025. Only loggings for stations heard on 1470 or 1480 kHz will be accepted during this week’s challenge.
Any station heard (including TIS, pirate, etc.) are eligible to be logged provided the station logged is broadcasting on the frequency of reception. No spurs, no images, no harmonics, etc.
Portable operations are encouraged, within 25 miles of your home location.
DXers must use their own equipment for this challenge. Online SDRs are only allowed if they belong to or are managed/maintained by the submitting DXer.
All entries must be made by using the Entry Form, found at dxchallenges.com. Users must be registered to our site to submit loggings (registration is free, it is only needed so you don’t have to type your name/location in with every log!)

Caribbean Radio Lighthouse [1160 kHz / Ed]
Early this morning, a capacitor exploded in the AM radio transmitter, causing a fire! Praise the Lord, the whole building didn’t catch fire! Today, I’m reminded that God is in control of both the expected and unexpected! Please pray with us as we wait to see if the transmitter manufacturer has replacement parts for this 37-year-old technology. If you’re a listener in the Caribbean, we’re working to get back on the air as soon as possible. Until then, you can listen on our mobile app. –
