Czech Republic

Prague (dpa) –
Radio reception on medium wave (MW) and long wave (LW) has been history in many parts of Europe for years.
Now, in the Czech Republic, at least the public broadcaster will stop transmitting on MW and LW as the new year starts on Saturday.
The powerful transmitters on the frequencies 270, 639 and 954 kilohertz could also be received in large parts of Germany.
The reason given for the move was the widespread availability of terrestrial digital radio DAB+ and the high costs of broadcasting.
Those still listening using medium waves were to be persuaded to switch with a campaign. The radio station Cesky Rozhlas set up a telephone hotline to answer questions.
It was not known at first whether the transmitters would be retained or used for other purposes.
The antenna of the medium-wave transmitter Liblice B east of Prague is considered the highest structure in the Czech Republic, with a height of 355 metres.
Impuls, the most-listened to private radio station, wants to remain faithful to medium wave for the time being. It broadcasts its second programme, with pop and country music, on analogue transmission.

KOMO – 1000 AM in Seattle now KNWN.
I checked wikipedia which was updated https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KOMO_(AM)
Towards the end there is details of the sale:
“On June 3, 2021, Sinclair announced they would sell KOMO AM/FM, KVI and KPLZ to Lotus Communications for $18 million. Of the $18 million, $5 million will be in cash paid at closing; the remainder will be Lotus’ choice of either cash or advertising for Sinclair properties on Lotus’ stations. Sinclair will retain KOMO-TV, as well as rights to the KOMO call letters. Lotus and Sinclair have also agreed to allow Lotus to use Sinclair equipment and IT systems, including sub-leasing the current KOMO studios, for 18 months following the sale; with it, KOMO-TV and KOMO-AM-FM were separated after 68 years.[11] The sale was completed on September 28, 2021,[12] and on December 30, 2021 KOMO (AM)’s call sign was changed to KNWN.”

New Year’s Bandscan

Hello, a good morning and a Happy New Year to all DXers and radio listeners.

Slovakia: The defective tx in Rimavska Sobota on 1521 AM is still on air (see Filakovo KiwiSDR: http://om7zy.proxy.kiwisdr.com:8073/ ) (now at 04:20 UTC / 05:20 local time)

Romania: Hungarian service of Radio Tirgu Mures: The tx on 1323 kHz went a few minutes too late on air (I guessed that the Hungarian service has been ceased, but now it’s on air on 1323 AM).

Czech Republic: Confirming the closedown of 270 kHz, 954 kHz and 1017 kHz.
Still on air: R. Dechovka on 792 KHz.

Greetings Nils Düwel (2022-01-01)

The switching off of CRo 270 kHz leaves only 14 active LW frequencies, according to https://www.mwlist.org/

DR Kalundborg 243 kHz is one of them. After almost 95 years it is still in use several times a day.
