Elizovo. One MW antenna and some SW antennas were removed:
53.185196272158784, 158.41384115919607

The MW antenna has been built around 2005/2006.
53.18726637478522, 158.40965691306394

I don’t know the purpose of that now removed antenna, but maybe an SW angle dipole?

MW Frequency Challenge – Week 1 – 1160-1224 kHz
It is Week 1 of our MW Frequency Challenge and this week’s frequencies are 1160-1224.
The challenge is open to ANY DXer, no matter your location!  A quick reminder of the challenge rules:

  • All logs are for receptions made between 0000 UTC on Saturday, September 24 and 0200 UTC Saturday, October 1, 2022.  Can’t count that time you heard them 4 years ago, lol!
  • Logs must be made using your own equipment, no online SDRs (unless it is YOUR online SDR).  If you are remote from your home QTH, please be sure to document your correct location on the form.
  • Any stations transmitting within this range of frequencies are fair game for the challenge.  This includes TIS/HAR stations, 9 kHz split stations, pirates, etc.  As long as the fundamental transmitting frequency of the station is between 1160-1224, it counts!
  • To be considered for the challenge, logs MUST be submitted using the Google Forms link, below.  Any logs made through social media, email, in club publications, etc, are NOT counted.

That’s it, have fun and let’s hope you rack up some fantastic DX!

As some of you may have difficulty hearing stations from Nova Scotia on regular radio, I thought I’d pass along this short audio clip of Hurricane Fiona coverage from 1140 CBI Sydney, NS as heard here.

Autumn equinox bandscan 2022.
The weather was clear with barely a breeze. There was still visible auroral activity over the mountains just north of town.

The LW band showed little if any changes to the existing signals.

The MW band had stronger signals from Spain at the low end than I had expected. Higher up, Smooth Radio was listenable on 1152 and audible on 1161 kHz. Absolute Radio was fair on 1215 with a weak relay audible on 1242 kHz. The other big Brits were there, just not wall-to-wall. There was a clear signal on 999 kHz, probably Russia.

WSB 750 off again tonight. I am informed that WSB will be off-air again for an indeterminate amount
of time tonite as the installation is not yet complete.
The installation of various hardware on AM antenna towers is an efficient use of resources, and sometimes a cashflow benefit to the station or tower owners, but it certainly almost never does appear to be well thought out or organized. Required by 47CFR1.130000 et seq.
