Active sunspot AR3213 exploded during the early hours of Feb 10th (0303 UT), producing an M3.7-class solar flare and a shock wave in the sun’s atmosphere. This extreme ultraviolet movie from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory shows what happened:

The shock wave is the shadowy disturbance expanding radially from the blast site. Based on the drift rate of a Type II solar radio burst reported by the US Air Force, the shock speed was 820 km/s (1.8 million mph).

Update: Shock waves like these usually lift a CME out of the sun’s atmosphere. In this case, however, no CME was detected by SOHO coronagraphs. Without a CME to rattle Earth’s magnetic field, the event will not cause a geomagnetic storm.

Portable Radios Make Overseas Trip to Ukraine, Local Fundraising Continues.

Since starting his GoFundMe campaign in December, New York broadcast engineer Paul Thurst has raised more than $1,300 to send portable radios to war-torn Ukraine.

“In this high tech world with all of the many media choices available, when all else fails, radio is still there,” wrote Thurst in a December Radio World story. “That is true here and it is true in Ukraine as well. With that in mind, we reached out to someone who is working for an aide organization and asked if small battery-powered radios would be helpful. The answer was an enthusiastic YES!”

Now, the money raised has allowed Thurst to send 80 radios to Ukraine, with another 40 units on the way. Each radio will be distributed with two changes of batteries, which is expected to provide roughly 2,400 hours of listening time.

CBC won’t abandon TV, radio audiences as it charts digital path over next decades, says president.
The CBC will continue to provide Canadians with traditional radio and television broadcasts and will delay its move to digital-only service until adequate high-speed Internet is available to all Canadians, said the head of CBC.

This station that operates in the Orlando FL area as Family Radio has been reactivated. I have heard it during a recent Florida opening on my Italian remote Perseus, and checked with a local KiwiSDR. It think it has been off for a while damaged by a tornado.
