How radio became a lifeline for western North Carolina residents during Helene.
When Hurricane Helene struck western North Carolina, it knocked out cell phone service in some areas, forcing many residents to depend on the radio for communication and information.
For days, WWNC AM [570 kHz / Ed] radio host Mark Starling and his producer, Tank Spencer, served as a proxy dispatch service, helping to coordinate wellness checks and connect the stranded with nearby resources. Skyler Henry has more.

KGBC Galveston TX (1540 AM) is nowadays rebroadcasting “Power 105.3” in Spanish. Both stations belong to the same owner, Space City Broadcasting, based in Houston, Texas.
I received this information directly from Omar Romero, the CEO and owner of the company, when I was researching what the Power 105.3 ID that I heard on 1540 AM was all about. Omar can be reached via a form on the website https://lapowerfm.com/ and responded to me immediately. KGBC, which I first heard in 2007, has been changing formats quite often – previously it identified as ESPN Houston, and is listed as “Aliento Radio” in the new NRC AM Radio Log. The exact offset of the station is 1539.995 kHz.

Bandscan Botswana & South Africa

Last night I could hear somes radio stations from África vía SDR Reunion Island.  I was especially interested in Radio Botswana and some radios in South Africa.

BOTSWANA .- I can hear Radio Botswana 1 only in 3 frequencies:
531 Khz (Maun), fair.
648 Khz (Mopipi), excellent.
693 Khz (Sakawe), good.
The rest of the frequencies, 873, 945, 972, 1071, 1215, 1350, are silent.

SOUTH AFRICA. – Some stations head vía SDR Reunion Island.
567 khz CAPE TALK (Kipheswa), excelent signal
657 Khz Radio  PULPIT (Meyerton)  Strong.
729 khz Cape Pulpit (Kipheswa), strong.
828 Khz Magic 828 (Kipheswa), excellent.
845 Khz Umhlobo Wenebe FM (Komga), silent.
1548 Khz Radio Islam International (Lenasia), good to weak.

I can’t hear from my QTH with my radio, but maybe other colleges can. .

WMOP     900 AM     NOT HEARD
WTWD 910 NOT HEARD
WORL 950    NOT HEARD
WTIS 1110 NOT HEARD
WVVO    1140 AM NOT HEARD

WIWA 1270  NOT HEARD
1520 nothing from Tampa or Orlando areas
1540-1580 NOTHING HEARD
1580 nothing Orlando

This Kiwi has quite good weak signal performance so UNHEARD probably means off air at time of monitoring, certainly for channels below 1500kHz. At least 40 AM channels had audible daytime signals.
