Big sunspot AR3354 has developed a ‘beta-gamma’ magnetic field that harbors energy for strong solar flares. NOAA forecasters estimate a 40% chance of M-class flares and a 10% chance of X-flares on June 28th. Any eruptions will likely be geoeffective as the sunspot is turning to face Earth.

With the closing, WLIM has begun simulcasting JVC’s Classic Hits “Big 98.1” W251BY Patchogue/WPTY-HD2 until it debuts its new format on September 1. Newsday reports that WLIM will flip to Spanish News/Talk “En Vivo” on that date.

The new station will be overseen by sister Spanish Tropical “La Fiesta 98.5” WBON Westhampton PD/morning host Ana Maria Caraballo and feature a lineup similar to their “LI News Radio” 103.9 WRCN Riverhead. Carraciollo told Newsday, “This came together because of the need. With La Fiesta we found that the community really wants to talk. Although La Fiesta is primarily a music station, we found there’s a need and an audience that was not getting served.”

WLIM will become JVC’s sixth brand in Suffolk County joining a cluster that also includes “My Country 96.1” WJVC Center Moriches and Rhythmic CHR “Party 105.3” WPTY Calverton-Roanoke.
