I receive a new (?) station from Italy called Radio Metropolis on 819 AM. The station sounds very loud with excellent sound processing, probably Optimod AM?
Anyone have any idea what the website or Facebook page is for this station?

Winter solstic bandscan.

I took the radio outside around 2220Z. The weather was nearly calm with a few snowflakes and slight frost. As a result, I did not stay long outside, just long enough for a single run over each band.

First, the LW band. It felt like a half-abandoned block of flats with only three stations plus Allouis: Rás 1 on 189 kHz, BBC R4 on 198 kHz and the Polish on 225 kHz.

The MW band… a mixed bag. The British stations felt a bit anemic in signal strength while I was getting useable signals from Spain and Middle/Eastern Europe.

Lyca Radio expands to Greater Manchester after acquiring Asian Sound Radio licence.

The licence of popular Manchester based station, Asian Sound Radio, has been sold to the Lyca Group.
Asian Sound Radio, which was co-founded by Shafat Ali and brother Shujat Ali, went on-air in 1992 (as Restricted Service License) – making it one of the longest running independent Asian radio stations in the UK. Asian Sound Radio was granted its permanent licence in August 1995 and successfully launched on the 3rd of June 1996 as the first Asian radio station in the North of England to cater for the South Asian Communities.

The Asian Sound Radio licence will sit under Lyca Group’s Lyca Media umbrella. This will be the third Asian radio station in the group after the flagship Lyca Radio [1458 kHz] and Lyca Gold [1035 kHz] brands in Greater London. The acquisition also makes Lyca Media the largest Asian radio group in the UK. It also runs English station, Time 107.5FM in the Romford area.

The sale of Asian Sound Radio is not only unique but also makes history as one of the first commercial Asian radio stations being sold. Previously, the Lyca Group bought Sunrise Radio’s frequencies when they went into administration. Asian Sound Radio covers the entire North West region of England with its two frequencies 963AM and 1377AM. It is also available on DAB and online. Lyca Media will announce details of its plans for Asian Sound Radio in the coming days.

Radio Ukraine International is on a new schedule from December 12-13 (all times UT).

21:00-21:08 daily Romanian [new on 1386 kHz] (formerly 20:00-20:08 online and satellite only)
21:08-21:20 Sun-Fri Romanian [new on 1386 kHz] (formerly 20:08-20:20 Sun-Fri online and satellite only)
22:00-22:08 daily Belarusian
23:00-23:08 daily Polish
00:00-00:08 daily Bulgarian [new on 1386 kHz] (formerly 20:20-20:28 online and satellite only, though irregularly on MW at 03:00-03:08)
01:00-01:16 Wed/Fri/Sat/Sun English
02:00-02:08 daily Slovak (formerly 03:00-03:08)
03:00-03:08 daily Hungarian [back on 1386 kHz] (formerly 04:00-04:08; Oct 29 – Dec 12 online and satellite only)

All other time slots between 21:00 and 03:30 UT are filled with relay of Ukrainian Radio’s 1st channel in Ukrainian.
Overall, the schedule looks more logical now. Anyway, I don’t understand who would listen to them late at night or very early in the morning.
There is also information that RUI has been dropped from satellite Astra 4A, being replaced by the 5th Channel of Ukrainian Radio (retro music station ‘Radio Tochka’ launched in August 2023), which is just another strange decision (maybe temporary) made by the Ukrainian Radio.
