SEVERE GEOMAGNETIC STORM AND PARTIAL LUNAR ECLIPSE: A CME hit Earth last night, sparking a severe geomagnetic storm. Auroras were reported in the USA as far south as the panhandle of Texas. A different kind of sky show will happen tonight: A partial eclipse of the “super” Harvest Moon. Full story @ Spaceweather.com.

Mongolia

Translated from French:
Will it abandon long wave in favour of digital short wave? We are aware of the problems encountered by this country in the operation of its long-wave transmitters. A meeting was held in September at the central station in the presence of the Minister for Electronic Development, Innovation and Communications. He stated that ‘due to a lack of maintenance, the propagation of radio waves has deteriorated to 55% of the territory. People in remote areas of Mongolia can no longer listen to the radio’.
Aware that national radio is the main tool for rapidly transmitting information, especially on disasters, the director of the national radio and television network spoke out. He pointed out that the transition to world-class digital system services has been going on for more than 10 years, but has not led to a clear solution.
As a result, the minister in charge of the sector wants to focus on the transition of radio stations to digital technology and the expansion of short-wave radio.
With the transition of national radio to digital technology, it will cover 95 per cent of the entire country and 3.5 million citizens will be able to listen to the radio regularly.
It should be noted that only one of the long-wave transmitters has been replaced by a DRM-compatible transmitter, while the others date from the 1960s. Mongolia is also likely to suffer from a lack of long-wave receivers.
Digital shortwave is the least expensive solution for covering an area three times the size of France.

Coast FM 1494 kHz.
The station which rebroadcasts Coast FM on 1494 khz is in an Irish county of Sligo. It is a pirate situated ——— in the countryside.
I just listen to it here in East Mayo ———- with a huge signal at 1300 UTC with the news.
The station comes up from time to time and is a very irregular broadcaster. I think the owner of the pirate station just wants to test his equipment from time to time.

SIGNIFICANT X-CLASS SOLAR FLARE:An explosive sunspot (AR3825) is turning toward Earth. Earlier today, it produced a very strong X4.5-class solar flare with a shortwave radio blackout over the Atlantic Ocean. A CME is now emerging from the blast site, and it might have an Earth-directed component. Updates @ Spaceweather.com.

The Government of India has renamed Port Blair, the capital  of Andaman & Nicobar Islands to Sri Vijaya Puram today !
The Akashvani station there now operates on MW 684 kHz  & FM.100.9 MHz.
Till a few years back they used to operate on SW with a10 kW transmitter which was widely heard by keen Dxers all over the world.
Just now also they are noted identifying as Akashvani Port Blair. Hope they will change their id announcement shortly.

1620 khz pirate heard Sunday night 9/8/2024.
This pirate has been on for a long time. The first time I logged them was in March of 2023. They are on pretty much every Sunday night (eastern time) for 3 to 4 hours playing the same MOR music with never an ID to be heard. Apparent location is somewhere in the northeast. The only times they might not transmit is if there is a holiday or if they’ve had technical difficulties. Given that I check them out pretty much every week, in the time since I first logged them in 2023 I’ve heard them at least 50 times. They’ve been one of the most consistent pirate broadcasters that I can recall. I wonder if the FCC will ever catch up with them.

I don’t know when it came back on, but Radio Granada [1080 kHz? / Ed] is now operational, although it can be heard with less power now than before the last outage at the end of August.

693 kHz RNE Radio 1 Tortosa is broadcasting normally again, but 855 kHz RNE Radio 1 Tarragona is still emitting noise.
