The Estate of Bob Bittner will shut down Soft Oldies “Bob’s Memories Station” 750 WJTO/105.3 W287DD Bath and 1470 WLAM/97.3 W247DK Lewiston ME on Sunday, April 13 at 11:59pm.

Those two stations and 870 WLVP/105.1 W286DR Gorham/Portland, which went silent last October (although no STA is on file at the FCC) had continued the listener supported programming that Bittner previously ran on a network in Massachusetts and Maine. The current programming will also keep streaming and be heard on 102.3 WGTX-HD3 Truro/106.5 W293DW-HD3 West Yarmouth MA on Cape Cod. A similarly programmed format continues on 720 WJIB/101.3 W267CE Cambridge/Boston under John Garabedian, who purchased WJIB from Bittner’s estate last year.

Operator/Programmer Bob Perry wrote, “On Sunday April 13th at 11:59PM, WJTO AM 750/FM 105.3 and WLAM 1470/FM 97.3 will be signing off permanently. We have tried to keep the stations going, but the cost of operating and maintaining the stations has just become too much, and more than the generous donations can cover! It was a very hard and emotional decision to make and wasn’t made lightly. We do want to thank all of you who have donated and kept us going this far. We have been holding the recent checks we have received. If you would like them returned please contact Bob Perry. If you would like us to divert your donation to the Streaming Service, that would be very much appreciated.”

According to the Post-Courier newspaper on 11 March, the National Broadcasting Corporation in Bougainville has commissioned major infrastructure upgrades at its local regional station in Buka.

The NBC is commissioning a 50-meter transmission tower including a 2 kilowatt FM transmitter, a 60 kilowatt generator and a four door Toyota Landcruiser. The NBC is seeking to expand its coverage into all regions regions of Bougainville.

According to the story, NBC Bougainville is now able to cover the entire island of Buka and surrounding islands and most parts of North Bougainville on the east coast right down to the land border with Central Bougainville at Tinputz.

Further improvements are planned to extend service to South Bougainville with the building of a mediumwave transmitter.

USAGM situation, as of April 4, from a reliable source: OCB may resume broadcasting SW from Greenville to Cuba, but nothing else on the air, with those in overall charge of engineering and transmission dismissed. It`s unlikely that the previous arrangement could be resumed in any reasonable length of time even if authorized.

The Tajikistan relays ended on April 1, also the FEBC Seoul and Jeju MW transmitters, and the Djibouti 1431 kHz relay. These were funded on a quarterly basis and DOGE would not allow them for another quarter.

RFA transmissions via the two SW sites of R Taiwan International have continued; as have Radio Liberty Russian via Radio Baltic Waves, Lithuania on 1386 kHz, but we don`t know for how much longer.

WRMI has on schedule R. Liberty in Russian on 15770 with System K, Mon-Sat at 0400-0430, or is it -0500? per sked, with something called Voice of Russia, Sundays at 0400-0430. RL via WRMI is presumably at WRMI`s initiative, unofficial. This could continue if any programming feed remains available.

Russia, China, Iran could not get rid of broadcasts from USA, but Trump succeeded in only a few weeks.

R. Liberty is at 0400-0500 Mon-Sat.

This is a nostalgic programming by Russian radio enthusiast Andrey Molokov. It consists mainly of music and sometimes episodes about history of Soviet/Russian SW/MW broadcasting. He also occasionally books airtime at Noratus and Tashkent stations, and runs a social network community often cited in SW bulletins.

After almost 6 months of inactivity, Radio Magna AM 680 KHz is back on the air. It can only be heard with music and brief recorded identifications, but with a very bad modulation, which makes one think that at present they have not solved certain technical problems they had before it went off the air. This station had its studios at 4570 Marcos Sastre Street in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, and a transmitter antenna in Villa Martelli, Vicente López, Province of Buenos Aires (Coodenadas: 34°33’14.6 ‘S, 58°31’04.9 ’W). For the moment, its website is inactive and it is not known if it will continue with the other means of contact it had until last year. (Translated from Spanish)

Since this morning SER Radio Madrid has the 810kHz channel empty. There is no broadcasting…
From Getafe nothing can be heard. I don’t know if they are moving, if they have had mishaps or if, perhaps, they have ceased medium wave broadcasts. Let’s hope that, in a few days, they will be back -even if it is with reduced power.

Justino Losada to iberiaDX iog (2025-04-03)

SER has sold the land from which Radio Madrid broadcasts on 810 kHz and during 2025 must vacate the space to begin its urbanisation.
I don’t know if they will broadcast from another location or if they will multiplex broadcasts with another medium wave, or if today’s broadcast is just a cut…. we will see what happens

I can confirm that Radio208 on 1440 kHz is off the air for the past three days. An attempt to get the transmitter on the air again yesterday was unsuccessful. I think the transmitter is broke. I will probably drive the long way to Copenhagen Monday, and see if there is a something I can do.
Radio208 on 1422 kHz (was approx 1 Watt) now has an even smaller coverage. Only heard locally in Nørrebro in Central Copenhagen.

World Music Radio (WMR) has been off the air on 927 kHz for several months now (https://mediumwave.info/2025/04/02/denmark-88/)

In the meantime the anti-broadcast (in their ‘local’ backyard), MW DXers can jump with joy …

Radio Pulpit 729 off air confimed.
Following on from my email yesterday I can confirm that Radio Pulpit have left AM. I phoned the station today and the receptionist told me that they were looking to move to FM. I suggested to her that maybe it was due the costs of running the AM service and she agreed this probably was the reason. The streaming service is still up and running. She said many elderly listeners were disappointed in this development but despite this, she doubted they’d be back on AM again. Website logo’s still show
729AM so maybe a move to FM will bring about a name change?

Andrey Shary, ex-director of Radio Liberty‘s Russian service (though he still works with that service), has commented on the current state of affairs.

“Even short-term prospects remain vague; planning horizons have been greatly reduced; we are forced to contract, primarily in terms of money, to look for much more economical ways of working. So far, nothing has been closed and no one has been fired, but many things have had to be put on hold. Some popular projects of the Russian Service have been suspended or are being suspended […]. Evening radio relays on medium waves may cease from mid-April. Other reductions are also quite possible.”

P.S. 1386 kHz (Lithuania, 75 kW) is Radio Liberty’s only official AM radio outlet. It is also relayed over WRMI Florida on 15770 kHz at 4-5 UTC (Mondays through Saturdays), but that’s WRMI’s own initiative, AFAIK.
