After its tower was swept away in the flooding caused by Hurricane Helene last September, Jet Broadcasting has completed the rebuild of the former “SportsRadio 1420” WEMB Erwin TN.
WEMB is now operating from the tower site of co-owned “Livewire 103.9” WXIS and stunting with sounds of jets taking off along with prerecorded announcements hyping the station’s new format. WEMB will debut programming on Friday, August 22 with the start of the Unicoi County High School football season.
Owner Maria True stated in a Facebook live video discussing the rebuild that WEMB will flip to a Talk format focusing on “positive, non-political” topics.

Our friend and loyal reader Luca Trifan, from Cluj-Napoca in Romania, informs us that on Tuesday, 19th, the Romanian National Audiovisual Council (CNA) debated Radio Romania’s decision to reduce the number of hours of medium and long wave programming.
The Council members emphasised the strategic importance of the medium wave network and expressed their dissatisfaction at the lack of prior warning of such a reduction.
An investigation will be carried out into the effects of this reduction and its real impact on listeners. Sanctions could be imposed.
At the same time, the director of Radiocom, the state-owned company responsible for maintaining the transmitters, warned that such a reduction, even if temporary, would lead to increased costs for the company, mainly due to personnel costs, as each OM/OL station is served by at least one technician and several guards, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. He estimates that Radiocom can bear these additional costs for a few weeks, after which additional funding will be needed.
Răzvan Ioan Dincă, the director of Radio Romania, justified the reduction with budgetary constraints, the alternative being the elimination of shortwave broadcasting and, consequently, of Radio Romania International, as its Internet/satellite audiences are too small to justify its existence without shortwave.
Mr Dincă hopes that the MW service will be fully restored as soon as possible, but that this will require additional public funding. The suspension of LW/MW broadcasting between 22:00 and 05:54 GMT+3 is scheduled to last until the end of the year, after which it will be reviewed, subject to an increase in the budget for 2026.
On a more personal note, I am very disappointed by the lack of coverage of this issue in the national press, even on the stations concerned (Radio România Actualități and Radio Antena Satelor). Fortunately, the CNA’s reaction to this situation gives me hope that, at least for RRA, the medium wave network will not be abandoned anytime soon, as it is the easiest way to cover at least 99.3% of the entire Romanian population, especially in emergencies. Most people still own a radio capable of receiving it. On the other hand, it is virtually impossible to buy a radio capable of receiving long waves today, and with the increase in maintenance and operating costs, the future of 153 kHz is uncertain.

Re.: https://mediumwave.info/2025/08/18/hungary-10/
I’m the proud owner of fsdr.duckdns.org 🙂
No, the station on 675 is the IMD product of HGA22+Kossuth Rádió (135.6+540). I cannot imagine what happened. Kossuth Rádió’s signal increased to the overloading point (despite a slight notch filter), and its harmonics (including 1620 khz – 4×540) appeared. The signal strength is unchanged on my other receivers. Usually corroded connectors can cause this, but I spent the whole morning checking the feedline and the antenna itself, but nothing extraordinary was found. Nothing changed at my property and at the neighbourhood. Connectors are ok, antenna is OK. I puzzled out a deeper notch for 540 kHz, to prevent overload, at this point only that I can do.

Re.: https://mediumwave.info/2025/08/18/hungary-10/
The signal is on 675,6 kHz and besides Kossuth Radio there is also the EFR signal audible. Not audible on other Hungarian kiwis.
So this seems to be an intermodulation at the receiver site of Kossuth Radio Solt 540 kHz and EFR Lakihegy 135,6 kHz (540+135,6=675).

Today, Saturday 16 August, marks the 100th anniversary of one of Argentina’s most important AM radio stations, which in recent years has remained the national audience ratings leader. The station is LR6 RADIO MITRE (AM 790 KHz), with studios in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. Although the station was officially inaugurated on 6 November 1925, it formally began broadcasting on 16 August of that same year, identifying itself with the call sign LOZ. Some time later, on 2 February 1928, the signal was assigned to ‘Sociedad Anónima La Nación’, at that time owner of the ‘Diario La Nación’ newspaper, founded in 1909 by Emilio Mitre, and was christened ‘LOZ The Nation Broadcasting’. Its first studios were located in a building in the Buenos Aires neighbourhood of Flores. In the 1930s, the station changed its call sign and name to ‘LR6 Radio La Nación.’ During the presidency of Juan Domingo Perón, LR6 was nationalised and operated by the state, an intervention that continued until the advent of democracy in the early 1980s. In this regard, Resolution 441 of the former Federal Broadcasting Committee dated 30/07/1982 called for a public tender to award the LR6 signal (AM 790 KHz) to private hands, and by means of Decree No. 2008/83 dated 09/08/1983, the licence in question was granted to the company ‘Radio Cultura S.A.’, which operated the station until 1992, when it was acquired by ‘Radio Mitre S.A.’, a company belonging to ‘Grupo Clarín S.A.’, the largest media holding company in Argentina. Currently, LR6 RADIO MITRE has its studios located at 2668 Gral. Mansilla Street in the Recoleta neighbourhood; Telephone: (11) 3003-0790 and 5168-0790 (Listeners); Email: info@radiomitre.com.ar; Website: www.radiomitre.cienradios.com. It is officially assigned Category II on AM, equivalent to a power of 100 kW (daytime) and 50 kW (nighttime), and its transmitter plant is located at 3050 El Chasque Street in William C. Morris, Hurlingham District, Province of Buenos Aires (Coordinates: 34°34’53.5‘S, 58°40’10.4’W), where its 200-metre-high omnidirectional antenna is located. It also has a Category ‘A’ Complementary Frequency Modulation Service at 99.9 MHz, which went on air on 17 August 1985 and has been known as ‘La 100’ since September 1987, in addition to another FM station at 91.5 MHz, awarded by Resolution No. 4558-ENACOM/19, which is not currently operational. It is worth noting that it has an important network of stations in the interior of the country that rebroadcast both the AM and FM signals. RADIO MITRE has been a benchmark in Argentine radio broadcasting, with a history marked by important historical events and prominent figures in journalism, hosting and broadcasting.
