6PB Perth 585 will continue on AM as a simulcast, due to legislative requirement.
The separate 585 kHz antenna is possibly Australia’s only remaining Alexanderson antenna (and possibly also the only MW Alexanderson in the world).
The Alexanderson is a very efficient small MW antenna (though difficult to tune) but lacks the anti-fading properties of the 0.625 lambda developed by Mackenzie of the PMGD in the early 1930s and thereafter almost universally deployed for high power ABC AM services throughout Australia.
