Goodbye RNE on MW !

On the occasion of the closure of the large transmitter network of RNE on medium wave there are two IQ-wideband-recordings from 29/30-12-2025 available on the COHIRADIA page at radiomuseum.org, which contain the last hours and the shutdown of most transmitters at or shortly after 02:00 UTC.

Recording 1 was made by Walter Barteczek with a STEMLAB125-14 SDR in Neunkirchen-Seelscheid (Germany). It contains the complete band (500 – 1750kHz) from 22:55 – 02:10 UTC. Recording 2 was made with an Airspy Hf by Gianni Müller in Perfugas (Sardinia). It contains the partial band from 492 – 1260 kHz between 01:50 and 02:15 UTC. The files can be downloaded in standard IQ-wav-format ,either for digital playback with major SDR-software (HDSDR, SDRUno, SDR#, …) or for analogue playback on historical radio receivers when using the equipment described in COHIRADIA.

The two recordings have excellent quality and are nicely complementary: The one made in Germany contains both, the major Spanish stations as well as many stations from GB, while the spectrum received in Sardinia reflects the whole Spanish spectrum with very high SNR.

Interested radio amateurs and collectors are cordially invited to visit the growing archive of COHIRADIA with many freely available records of complete AM-bands. Tuning through some of them allows to witness also the last hours of other traditional stations like RTL and Kalundborg on LW as well as Absolute Radio and RAI Radio1 on MW.

Footnote: The files, though having the extension ‘wav’, are no audio files and cannot be played back with standard audio players. Use HDSDR, SDRUno, SDR# or similar tools.
