Norfolk Islands

The ACMA has decided to extend the period of Norfolk Island Regional Council’s (NIRC) community broadcasting licence by a further two years to 16 June 2025. This will enable the service to continue while the ACMA considers an application by NIRC to approve the transfer of its existing licence to Norfolk Island Radio Ltd. NIRC has been providing community radio service Norfolk Island Radio VL2NI under the Broadcasting Services Act 1992 since June 2021. Prior to this date broadcasting services on Norfolk Island were regulated under the Norfolk Island Broadcasting Act 2001.

John Caracciolo’s JVC Media has closed on its purchase of Soft AC “93.3 The Breeze1440 WLIM Medford/93.3 W227CL Port Jefferson NY from Michael Celenza’s Commercial Assets Inc. for $500,000.

With the closing, WLIM has begun simulcasting JVC’s Classic Hits “Big 98.1” W251BY Patchogue/WPTY-HD2 until it debuts its new format on September 1. Newsday reports that WLIM will flip to Spanish News/Talk “En Vivo” on that date.

Carraciollo told Newsday, “This came together because of the need. With La Fiesta we found that the community really wants to talk. Although La Fiesta is primarily a music station, we found there’s a need and an audience that was not getting served.”

WLIM will become JVC’s sixth brand in Suffolk County joining a cluster that also includes “My Country 96.1” WJVC Center Moriches and Rhythmic CHR “Party 105.3” WPTY Calverton-Roanoke.
