Lithuania

Thanks to Rihards Millers in Latvia who brings our attention to the news published earlier this morning (30 July 2025) that Radio Liberty is to return on MW via Lithuania. According to the station itself (in Russian –https://www.svoboda.org/a/radio-svoboda-vozobnovlyaet-efirnoe-veschanie-na-srednih-volnah/33489174.html), the new broadcast times will be 8:30-11:30 Moscow time (05:30-08:30 UTC).

Translated to English the report on the Svoboda.org website reads:
“On August 1, Radio Liberty will resume broadcasting, which was suspended in June 2025 due to unfavorable budgetary circumstances.
Listen to us daily in the medium wave range at a frequency of 1386 kHz from 8.30 to 11.30 Moscow time. The program includes live news, analytical talk shows on current topics, interviews with experts and opinion leaders on politics, culture, public life; podcasts, the best from the Radio Liberty archive.
RS programs and news releases are still available around the clock in the audio stream on the Svoboda.org website , on the Radio Liberty Live YouTube channel, and in the main RS Telegram channel . Individual radio programs and podcasts from Radio Liberty are posted online, in particular, on popular podcast platforms and in the Radio Liberty Podcast Studio Telegram channel. You can also get acquainted with Radio Liberty programs through mobile applications for Android and iOS .
Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, which includes the Russian Service, is an independent media corporation. Its work is financed by funds allocated by the U.S. Congress through the Agency for Global Media (USAGM).
In mid-March 2025, US President Donald Trump – as explained, in order to optimize budget expenditures – signed an executive order cutting funding for seven government agencies, including USAGM. RFE/RL sued USAGM to transfer funds already allocated by the US Congress for 2025. On July 18, District Court Judge Royce Lamberth ruled in favor of the media corporation.”

Rihards says that apparently for now BBC will remain in the late evening hours on 1386 kHz.

Riverbend Communications launched Farm News/Classic Country “Farm Country 1260” on KNBL Idaho Falls ID.
KNBL had been silent from June 2024 until just before its license was to expire as Riverbend was evaluating the economic viability of continuing to operate the station. It previously was the parent signal for Classic Hits “Cannonball 101” K266AF Pocatello.
The station is now featuring a mix of Farm News and Classic Country utilizing programming from the Western Ag Network including agricultural news from 5am to 12pm and rodeo reports in afternoons.
General Manager Kevin O’Rorke stated to Riverbend’s EastIdahoNews.com, “Our goal is not just to entertain with the music, but really to educate and give farmers and ranchers as much information or access to people who have that information that can help them run a more profitable operation.”

HARWICH’S LV18 light vessel has been granted an AM radio licence with people in the area being invited to tune in. The Lightvessel LV18 on Harwich Quay has been home to radio stations for more than 25 years.
It also boasts a museum covering the history of the 1960s and 1970s pirate radio stations – a history captured in the film The Boat That Rocked.
From late 2023, the LV18 has had its own permanent online radio station Radio Mi Amigo.
It has been a long-term aim of the LV18 crew to host their own AM radio station to demonstrate how they used to work and “bring history to life”.
Ofcom has now granted the vessel a low power AM licence which covers the area of the LV18, which is moored permanently on Harwich Quay.

Station manager and licensee Tony O’Neill said: “We’ve been broadcasting on temporary licences for 25 years and are pleased to announce that we have now been granted this five-year licence.
“Our long-term aim has been to remember the important part the offshore radio pirates played in Sixties pop music and this ties in with our on-board museum.
“Harwich has a very important role in this aspect of its rich maritime history.”
The medium wave station programmes will be the same as the 24/7 online station, broadcasting a mix of Sixties and Seventies music to reflecting the era of the offshore pirates.
Those in the vicinity of LV18 in Harwich can tune in on 1575kHz MW.
Radio Mi Amigo will also be holding a live weekend between August 14 and 17.
A team of DJs, many of whom were the original pirates of the airwaves, will be broadcasting live from the LV18 on 1575kHz medium wave and online at lv18radio.uk.

Peru

The Ministry of Transport and Communications, MTC, awarded seven new radio frequencies in six locations in the country, aimed at expanding Peruvians’ access to new informational, educational and entertainment spaces.

Of the total frequencies granted, four correspond to Modulated Frequency (FM) broadcasting, intended for educational purposes, while the remaining three are Medium Wave (OM), of which two will be used for educational purposes and one for commercial use.

The benefited localities are: Alianza-La Unión-Pampa Hermosa (Loreto-San Martín), Camisea (Cusco), Huimbayoc-Navarro-Papaplaya-Pelejo (San Martín), Shamboyacu-Tingo de Ponaza (San Martín), Madre de Dios (Madre de Dios) and Carabaya (Puno).

These new authorizations will expand the radio offer in different areas of the country, considering that broadcasting plays a key role as a tool for development, integration and cultural preservation.

VOA Dari and Pashto back on MW/SW.
In mid-June, the Voice of America resumed broadcasts in Dari and Pashto on MW and SW. Can’t say that this programming is still branded as ‘Radio Ashna’ because I heard only something like ‘Radio Sedaye Amerika’. In addition, I couldn’t find it on the web sites of VOA Dari and Pashto services.

The schedule is:
1630-1645 UTC Mon-Fri in Dari 972 kHz (presumably Orzu, Tajikistan) and 11575 kHz (presumably Kuwait)
1645-1700 UTC Mon-Fri in Pashto 972 kHz (presumably Orzu, Tajikistan) and 11575 kHz (presumably Kuwait)

One can find them also in the IBB Monitor System at https://ibbmonitor.appspot.com/sounds/query?brc=VOA&date=2025-07-13,2025-07-14,2025-07-15&starttime=15:00&endtime=17:30

Norway

1314 kHz LLE-2 our first MW transmitter(1 kW) came back on air with reduced power on Sunday July 6th after a long break since May 31st except from a small daytime test mid-June. This was due to a burned-out spool in the ATU (Antenna Tuning Unit). Repairs seemed to be complicated, but our technical experts took the challenge. Hopefully the station will stay in top form as we plan a new format on this channel from September 1st.

1575 kHz LLE-4 our second MW transmitter ex 1611 kHz (until the end of 2023) has been allocated this channel after our application to NKOM with three alternatives in 2024. We intend to commence broadcasting early autumn 2025, at the outset//5895 kHz. The application and coordination process has indeed taken a long time but was done brilliantly by NKOM.
The license is for 6 years and presently allows 1 kW ERP.

Initially, our 2 kW tx will be used, most likely with @750 watts, and the former 1611 installation will be
utilized with some modifications. When on 1611 the «inverted V» antenna had a modest daytime performance but a good skywave and was heard in Canada. It seems to have best coverage NW/SE.

We are very grateful to the Norwegian Media Authorities who have shown us this confidence after now 13 years of broadcasting from the old LKB LLE site. We are now the only remaining Norwegian AM stations on the mainland, but of course LKL Svalbard Kringkaster on 1485 carrying NRK P1 is still broadcasting and has been improved.
Under the Copenhagen Plan in November 1978 Norway had 2 transmitters (LKF Fredrikstad 10 kW and
LKN3 ”Nordkapp” (Honningsvåg) 2 kW) on 1578 kHz and shared the channel with Italy 50 kW (+19 low
power stations) and Portugal 10 kW.

On the side 1575 Sharjah 50 kW and 1580 VOA Ban Pachi 1000 kW were often heard. So the channel will
be less crowded now!
We hope we will be heard far away! Correct reception reports to styret2025@bergenkringkaster.no will be answered by eQSL.

Im pretty sure thats a goof in the system, Pamplin was a former owner.

Paul B. Walker Jr. to IRCA iog (2025-06-03)

I  think you’re right. The phone number shown for Pamplin is disconnected. I wonder how the FCC could do this.
The website and stream are still going strong. It looks and sounds exactly as if on the air with spots, mention of 50,000 watts and weather forecast for Wednesday. I called the phone number and it went to voice mail. Maybe she can turn a profit without a 50,000 watt transmitter.

Dennis Gibson to IRCA iog (2025-06-03)

It’s certainly a mistake/glitch, as Pamplin Media is no more. It sold all its newspapers to the terrible Carpenter Media group last year (full disclosure: Carpenter owns the Everett Herald in Everett, Wash., where I finished 15 years as a journalist back in 2008; it’s gutted that staff greatly).

All of Pamplin’s holdings, in fact, are being sold off to pay for the money he raided from his employees’ pension funds. This article from the newspaper where I interned in my college town mentions that the radio stations Pamplin bought turned out to be an ill-fated investment. Even KPAM 860 in Portland, named after Pamplin, was sold years ago.
