600 CFQR Montréal now with own programming.

CFQR’s licence was approved by the CRTC in 2012 for transmission with 10kW days and 5kW at
night. CFQR was licensed for almost-entirely local programming. It took until June 2017 for the
station to actually transmit and it did so with test transmissions of mainly music but no actual
content. From 13th June CFQR has taken a tentative step forward by presenting a morning drive
programme hosted by Jim Connell.
CFQR’s story is peppered with difficulty. The station blamed the lack of a suitable internet connection to its transmitter site as the reason for it not broadcasting sooner. The lack of internet connection meant that the station could not relay the emergency National Public Alerting System – a matter that the CRTC rejected as non-compliant. This, along with a failure to submit financial returns, caused the CRTC only to issue a short-term four-year licence renewal expiring on 31st August 2023. (CRTC decision 2019-292).

This updates the 2022 WRTH which lists the station as carrying Chinese programming.

Mi Amigo Reunion Broadcast

When Radio Caroline broadcast off the English coast in the 1970s, it was Europe’s First And Only Album Station. The years 1976 -1980 are, for many Caroline listeners, the most cherished.
To celebrate that era we have a weekend of special programmes, live from the Ross Revenge, presented by the very DJs who broadcast from our much missed previous ship, the Mi Amigo, all those years ago.
Mark Lawrence and James Ross, so fondly remembered, will broadcast on Caroline for the first time in over 40 years.
Another presenter – much missed from both that era and the following decade – is Tom Anderson. “It’s high time we put the band back together,” laughed Tom. “The boys from that era on the Mi Amigo have stayed in touch … the UK has just celebrated the Queen’s Jubilee and we were reminiscing about the Jubilee in ‘77 when we were all on the Mi Amigo. It slowly dawned on us that we should do it again!”
Tom, James and Mark will be joined by Martin Fisher, Roger Mathews, Brian Martin, Stuart Russell (now Nigel Harris), Mike Stevens, Richard Thompson (now Bob Lawrence), Cliff Osbourne and Marc Jacobs.
Music from the likes of Yes, Eagles, America, Steely Dan, Deep Purple, Carole King and Queen will radiate on 648 AM, on a dedicated pop-up player accessable from here and on the ‘Caroline North’ stream on our smartphone apps from 2pm on Friday 8th to 9pm on Sunday 10th July.

Cumulus Media will flip Talk 790 WPRV Providence RI back to Sports “790 The Score” in August.
First announced in a video posted to YouTube, the station will drop its mostly syndicated lineup of hosts including Chris Plante, Dave Ramsey, Mark Levin & Ben Shapiro to return to the Sports brand the station had under its former WSKO call letters from 1998 to 2008.
The new iteration of the Score will feature programming from CBS Sports Radio and Audacy’s BetQL network. The Boston Globe reports that Kevin McNamara, who hosts the 6pm hour on sister News/Talk 630 WPRO/99.7 WEAN, will air on 790 from 5-7pm with the second hour simulcast on WPRO/WEAN. The station will also continue to air New York Yankees baseball, Boston Celtics basketball, and Brown University football and basketball.
WPRV currently has a 0.1 share in the Providence market. The Sports marketplace currently features Audacy’s WEEI network heard on 103.7 WVEI-FM Westerly with a 4.4 share and Beasley’s “98.5 The Sports Hub” WBZ-FM Boston with a 4.1 share.
