and dismissing their STA and applications in June because they failed to include the Chinese government owned Phoenix Radio US as a, {sic} H&H’s subsidiary GLR Southern California has reapplied for permission to operate XEWW adding Phoenix as an operator on the basis that they were “unaware of any formal complaints being submitted to the FCC in the time that this station has been programmed in Mandarin Chinese about the content of these broadcasts”. The station, which never stopped broadcasting despite the previous FCC order, also filed an STA to continue
those broadcasts while the application is pending.

Mightier 1090 XEPRS Tijuana San Diego
Ahead of its relaunch as Sports “The Mightier 1090“, XEPRS Tijuana/San Diego has begun stunting with a loop featuring “The History of 1090”. The loop focuses on the history of the frequency discussing some of the station’s eras with Wolfman Jack, “The Soul Express”,  and its first run as Sports “Mighty 1090” taking pot shots at previous management running it into the ground. Japan

As for domestic radio broadcast, NHK says on August 4 that they will broadcast 1 program on AM and 1 program on FM.
Now Program 1 (general) and Program 2 (cultural and educational) on AM, NHK-FM on FM. This means Program 2 on AM will be suspended and the their frequencies will be reduced. They say the exact date of the suspension will be fixed in 2021 fiscal year (April 2021 – March 2022).

Japan

NHK to reduce radio channels.
This is talking about it’s domestic radio services:
NHK Radio 1 and NHK Radio 2, which are both nationwide mediumwave broadcasts.
NHK Radio 1 is news and light entertainment, Radio 2 is education and some foreign-language services. During a major earthquake or tsunami, Radio 2 switches exclusively to foreign-language broadcasts. (Mostly English, mirroring the second audio channel on NHK G television, but some automated warnings in also Chinese, Korean and Portuguese. Possibly some others, it’s been a while since I heard them.)
Radio 1 is mostly carried by a smaller number of more powerful transmitters, Radio 2 on a denser network of lower power transmitters, many on frequencies shared with other parts of Japan and neighboring countries.
NHK also runs an FM network which appears untouched by this proposal.

Japan

Major news from Japan: the NHK1 and NHK2 networks on the MW band, favorite targets for many MW DXers, will be merged.
This is a translated excerpt from a news item first linked by Hiroyuki Okamura: https://www.asahi.com/articles/ASN836HL7N83UCVL00Z.html
“According to the official, AM Radio, which currently has the first and second, plans to issue a concrete plan to unify within three years of the medium-term management plan, and then make it one wave each at AM and FM.”

Norfolk Island

Per their website, Radio Norfolk now broadcasts on 1566 AM at the following times:
Monday to Friday 7am till 4pm, then relay of Radio NZ,
Saturday 7am to 12pm, then relay of Radio NZ;
Sunday 7am to 11am, then Radio NZ.
Times listed here will be local – 1 hour behind NZ.
I did hear them opening at 2000 UTC last year but haven’t been able to trace their signal during my late July checks morning and evening.

Portugal

I confirm the channel of the R.Renascença group called “Rádio Sim” is theoretically over. The VHF-FM txs and the MF txs airing R. Sim were switched to air R. Renascença channel 1 instead, with the Seixal tx awaiting reactivation.
The active MF fqs. will be 891 Vilamoura, 963 Seixal (greater Lisbon), 981 Geria (Coimbra) and 1251 kHz Castelo Branco. R. Sim is not dead yet though as the Serra da Arrábida tx on 102.2 MHz is still airing that particular channel while awaiting the switch to RR ch. 1.
There are no plans to reactivate the remaining MF txs, let alone that of the Muge site which houses 2×10 kW MF txs, 1×100 kW MF tx plus 1×100 kW HF tx. Replacement of the existing MF txs by new ones is not in the RR group either, just like what happens with RTP.
