Radio Caroline – solar power.
The Radio Caroline website now has a short article by Peter Moore “Here Comes the Sun – Our Solar Project Goes Live” with a link to a longer more detailed one by transmitter engineer Alan Beech.
Top right hand side of the webpage now again has a solar power meter showing the current power being generated by the solar array.

Can some Spanish members check 1224 kHz for COPE Lleida and COPE Mallorca ?
For some weeks I can hear Almería, Lugo and Huelva here in Austria but no sign of the usual dominant stations from Lleida and Mallorca.
Have they reduced power, closed or is it just strange conditions ?

Both COPE stations are now OFF for some months. They said due to technical issues. Radio Manresa was also OFF for 3 months and then came back with more power. 
No date for transmitting again, but waiting for answers!

Radio Caroline, Have applied to Ofcom for a substantial power increase, in relation to there 25Kw Transmitter.
Solar panels are being fitted between now and Easter, so it could happen in time for then.

I have noted a few loggings of RTL with very weak signal on the old frequency 234 kHz.

I think the transmitter is operated the same way as Kalundborg on 243 kHz. When the transmitter is switched off the exciter is still active. The power of the signal from the exciter is attenuated when it passes through the switched off power stage. But a small amount is still radiated. In 2015 Terecom estimated that 1 – 5 Watts were radiated as an open carrier on 243 kHz. Modern high power transmitters are operated in that way.
