CFAR signed on the air in 1937 originally on 1370. In 1946 the station moved to 590. In 2013 CFAR flipped to 102.9 but kept 590 on the air as a rebroadcaster to serve remote areas not within range of the new FM signal.
CFAR is one of only a handful of stations in Canada to retain its original AM signal after making the move to FM.
