Ukraine

Monitoring Ukraine Radio on 1278 KHz at 0220 from SDR at SM2BYC in No. Sweden using 4SQ MW antenna pointed south – man in Ukrainian with ID as “Ukrainski Radio” and then into a Ukrainian pop vocal at 0222 – station suddenly off in mid-song at 0222:25 and only Iran heard after this.
Sudden departure could have been for any one of several reasons…prior to this the signal was S5 and dominating Iran. Checking other SDRs in Finland had Ukraine more or less equal strength with Iran and fading from foreground into background and back again.
[Heard via Karelian SDR this morning at 0445 UTC with good signal / Ydun].

Another earthquake in Japan.
Just listening to 774 and other NHK2 frequencies.  Big earthquake (6+) in Tokyo and environs.  English translation of Japanese reporting.  Power outages, evacuations, etc.  Nuclear power stations….checking for any irregularities.  Excellent via Masset SDR at 15:37 UTC….

Tambov SDR/657 jamming.
They blocked 1413 Vesti FM, but already since I am aware of this SDR. I remember that I read in a forum that the reason is that many people then use it to listen to Vesti FM, but that doesn’t really make sense
for me. An SDR is intended that people use it to listen to stations.
I think (just a rumor) they don’t like the station itself and therefore notch it out. They also notched out 7050/7055 where people from Ukraine and Russia insult each other.
If you use 4,5 kHz bandwidth on the right side band of the AM demodulator you still reach the area that is notched out. KiwiSDR then blocks the entire audio. Decrease the bandwidth on the right side band
and you can listen to 1404. That also applies to the left side band if you listen to 1422.
On this SDR I can now listen to Italy (sounds like that) on 657. I see a carrier-like signal at 659 kHz. The Pskov SDR, where a stronger signal was audible (about 1 kHz lower than 657), is currently offline (normal
there, was already some days ago). Maybe the IP address isn’t correct and the update (I assume DynDNS) doesn’t work.
On the Химкм SDR near Moscow I can also see that signal at 659 kHz, but audio doesn’t work at all at this time on this SDR.
On the Skopanie SDR in Poland is a string interference visible, but I can’t hear it, audio also doesn’t work there (many other KiwiSDRs work, so I don’t think it a problem at my side).
On the Dorohoi-SDR close to the Ukrainian border I can listen to 657 and 1278 very well, there is no jamming audible at this time.
All public SDRs in Ukraine are currently offline.

RTL 234kHz Transmitter shutdown at night and power reduction during the day.
The night shutdown of the long-wave transmitter was justified by RTL Paris “following work at the Junglinster transmitter center”.
Which is false because BCE still has a back-up transmitter in Junglinster. The real reason is that RTL M6 in Paris refused to pay the electricity price increase!
Listeners have already sent letters of complaint to RTL 56 avenue Charles de Gaulle F-92200 Neuilly-sur-Seine ( contact.antenne@rtl.fr ) to have this decision changed and to ask that the power be no longer reduced and that the transmitter not be shut down at night.
If there are a lot of requests, the situation will be reviewed.

Mid-West Family Broadcasting has made some programming changes at News/Talk WMAY Springfield IL.
The station has dropped all branding references to 970 WMAY Springfield and translators 94.7 W234CC Sherman and 102.5 W273DR Springfield to brand just as “92.7 WMAY” emphasizing the Class B1 92.7 WMAY-FM Taylorville.

1395, March 15 at 1819, Russian, VG S9+15/30 into Tambov, Russia KiwiSDR, not blocked and no jamming yet, long interview above lots of crowdnoise background — the new R. Liberty one-hour relay by crowdfunding as USAGM is not interested. Site not revealed but obviously Gavar, the only huge signal on 1395, 500 kW. As to be expected, only 1403 km = 872 statute miles away. Another user is also on this from Arlington VA, guess who?
Tambov also has Russian on 1386, in fact sounds like the same, i.e. R. Baltic Waves relay from Lithuania. Strangely, this Kiwi does not block 1386 & 1395, but next channels, 1404, 1413, 1422 are blacked out. 1395 also audible at further Pskov, but lots more ACI from nearby 1386. At 1900, 1395 abruptly switches to TOMBS cult in South Carolina English! No 1395 on the TOMBS website.
