The NBA’s Miami Heat will move their broadcasts from Audacy’s “790 The Ticket” WAXY South Miami to co-owned 560 WQAM Miami.

The Heat will join the NFL’s Dolphins and University of Miami Hurricanes on WQAM as Audacy consolidates their local sports content on the station. WAXY will air games that conflict with WQAM as well as additional pre-season games. WAXY had served as the flagship for Heat broadcasts since the 2011-12 season. WQAM previously carried the Heat from its inaugural season in 1988-89 to 1992-93.

The cuts across Audacy have seen two of their Sports talkers eliminate all of their local programming.

“1140 The Bet” KXST North Las Vegas eliminated its afternoon show “The Playmakers” hosted by Lindsey Brown and Adrian Hernandez from 3-5pm.

“1250 The Fan” WSSP Milwaukee has bowed out of a three-way local Sports race in the market that also includes Good Karma Brands’ “94.5 ESPN” WKTI and iHeartMedia’s “97.3 The Game” WRNW-FM and will now run the CBS Sports Radio network around the clock.

New Albany Broadcasting, now operating as Aircom Media, has flipped Classic Country/Southern Rock “My 94.1” 1600 WKYI Eminence/94.1 W231DB LaGrange KY to a simulcast of R&B Oldies 1350 WLOU Louisville/104.7 W284AD New Albany IN.

The move expands the WLOU programming to the eastern fringes of the Louisville market around Shelbyville. Aircom VP/Programming Mark Gunn states, “This is a great move which allows us to serve the area with our unique brand of Classic Soul and other programming designed to connect as many people as we can in the Commonwealth no matter who they are or where they’re from.”

With the programming change, WKYI has changed call letters back to WLUE. Those calls were utilized on 1600 from January 2012 to February 2013 and June 2016 to December 2017.

WLOU held a 2.8 share of the Louisville market in the June 2022 Nielsen Audio ratings.

US Daytimer DX from Europe

It may feel strange that I’m about to suggest looking for North American DX during the Summer heatwaves in NW Europe.
But that’s exactly what I am going to do.
Unsurprisingly most DXers look for US daytimer signals in the winter. But between September and March DX opportunities are set by the position of the terminator between day & night – where there is more darkness at higher latitudes in the Northern hemisphere.
However between April and August the opposite is true – there are fewer hours of darkness at higher latitudes in the Northern hemisphere.
This fundamental difference means that opportunities for trans-atlantic daytimer DX are very different between August & September.

If you are interested in a challenge here are some stations that could be heard in the final week of August. More southerly daytimer stations in the USA have an advantage before the Autumn equinox. Simply put, that is because sunset arrives in Florida earlier than in more northerly latitudes. Another way to express it is to note that Miami has more hours of darkness than Toronto does before the Equinox; after the Equinox the reverse is true.
The following stations might be easier to hear in late August than after the equinox. (The times shown are when the station either reduces power or closes down in August.)

Good luck!

AM changes.
Iglesia Pentecostal Vispera del Fin’s Spanish Christian 1490 KBRO Bremerton/Seattle WA seeks to move to 1480 with an upgrade from 1kW to 5kW day/12 watts night. To make the upgrade possible if approved, Iglesia Pentecostal Vispera del Fin will surrender the license of 1480 KNTB Lakewood/Tacoma, while James Dalke will turn in Oldies 1460 KARR Kirkland/Seattle.

Mexico

XECCAK-1370 Huamantla, Tlaxcala, Mexico claims to have signed on the air yesterday, 8/13/2022, only a few months after being granted their CP. I do not know that they are actually on the air. They have a Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/lamaspeligros) but it references a web site (peligrosa.mx) that doesn’t exist. 1370 is a wide-open frequency in Mexico nowadays (and not bad in the western US, as long as KGNO isn’t running day rig all night) so potentially an excellent target. Daytime power is 5kW. As usual, we don’t know the nighttime power.

GEOMAGNETIC STORM WATCH: Minor to moderate geomagnetic storms are possible on Aug. 17-18 when a CME is expected to sideswipe Earth’s magnetic field. The storm cloud was launched earlier today by an explosion around sunspot AR3076, described below. NOAA analysts are modeling the CME for a more precise estimate of impacts and arrival time.
