After Audacy acquired the intellectual property of Hip Hop/R&B “WAMO 107.3660 WAMO Wilkinsburg/W297BU Pittsburgh earlier this year, Martz Communications Group is donating the AM signal to the Chuck Leavens led Pittsburgh Public Media.

Martz will receive a tax credit for an amount determined via an appraisal done by the end of the year. The 1.4kW daytime signal will join PPM’s other holdings which include co-located 1550 WZUM Braddock, 101.1 W266CV Braddock/Pittsburgh and 88.1 WZUM-FM Bethany WV all of which operate as “The Pittsburgh Jazz Channel“.

With the four-year window keeping the translator bound to the AM signal expired, the Audacy programmed Hip Hop/R&B format will now originate from 107.9 WDSY-HD2 Pittsburgh allowing the AM to be eliminated from the operation.

Romania

New medium wave transmitters.

Relations are tense between Radio Romania and the National Radiocommunication Society. Radio Romania is tired of increasingly poor performances of transmissions made with material over twenty years old.

The Romanian Broadcasting Company (SRR) was, even, on the verge of terminating the contract and taking all technical and legal measures to repair the damage caused by the SNR.

Following complaints, the National Society of Radiocommunications (SNR or Radiocom) has launched a tender for the renewal of 5 medium wave transmitters. The choice of the supplier will be made soon

The main transmitter center affected by the grievances of Radio Romania is the one of Constanta in Valu lui Traian, where a transmitter has been out of order for almost two years. But the concern is also at the level of short-wave transmitters where outages have occurred for years.

Instead of investing in equipment replacement and upgrading, SNR invested in other highly controversial areas, according to “Cetă Aueanul” investigations. just”.

The threats posed by the Romanian Broadcasting Society are resolved by the upcoming acquisition of 5 new medium-wave transmitters, 3 of which will be installed in Valu lui Traian:

1 25 kW AM transmitter – DRM simulcast on 909 kHz for Radio Constanta;
1 50 kW AM transmitter – DRM simulcast on 1314 kHz for Antenna Satelor;
1 50 kW AM transmitter – DRM simulcast on 1458 kHz to replace Radio Romana Actualitäti transmitter that has been currently out of service for two years.

The other two transmitters will be installed in Oradea Rontau for Radio Romana Actualitäti on 603 kHz (1 50 kW AM transmitter – DRM simulcast) and in Bucharest Herăstrău for Antenna Satelor on 603 KHz (1 25 kW AM transmitter – DRM Simulcast).

In addition to these 5 OM transmitters and a solution for OC transmitters and antennas, the Romanian Radiodiffusion Society is also waiting for the refurbishment of all FM transmitters and the urgent start of the DAB+.

On its part, SRTv demanded the completion of the full commissioning of the DVB-T2 digital television, delayed for almost two years.

Religious preaching – presumed Dr. Gene Scott – on 1170 kHz till 07 UTC . Heard on the car radio with fine signals south of Vigo in Galicia. Faded out just before 07. Who is that?
Later WWVA was fine on 1170 with Fox News.

WWVA has some unusual programming that is not mentioned on their website schedule. That schedule has a gap between 8pm and 2am local time. https://newsradio1170.iheart.com/schedule/

On 17/11 at 0100 utc I heard the start of a gardening podcast called Extension Calling. Even the podcast’s website doesn’t mention WWVA even though it originates in Wheeling WV.

I was asked if I had possibly misheard the ID on 1350 WOAM as it has been inactive since 2013.
But I checked and couldn’t get it to anything else so I logged on to a Kiwi SDR in Peoria IL and listened to 1350 and there was a music station going which was ID as FM and AM 1350 WOAM.
So it’s apparently back on. There isn’t much info about this online so it can’t have been running that long. The license was renewed on 15/7-2022 and is valid for 5-6 years.
