SURPRISE GEOMAGNETIC STORM: Surprising forecasters, a crack opened in Earth’s magnetic field last night. The resulting geomagnetic storm sparked naked-eye auroras across many northern-tier US states with photographic auroras descending all the way down to mid-latitudes.
