Another medium wave closure happens this weekend too.
University Radio York, 1350 kHz will be switched off permanently at midnight on Sunday night 25 June; the station is already on FM and online.
University Radio York is the very last student station on medium wave in UK. Do end of an era.

Full list if medium wave transmitters that are closing permanently on 30 June 2023.
They are only announced on air on each transmitter so you won’t hear them unless you are actually listening on medium wave. Very sad.

All Junglinster short wave transmitters are completely dismantled and it has become a data center. Shortwave antennas are used by BCE radio amateurs. All that remains is a Thomson backup long-wave transmitter which will be dismantled.
In Beidweiller there are 2 inactive long wave TRAME transmitters from RTL and 2 TRAME recovered from Europe 1 in spare parts. (they are for sale!). The antennas should be dismantled this summer.

The current pictures of the Junglinster TX show that solar panels were installed between 2016 and 2021.
Does anybody know who did that?
IIRC the TX was already switched off there on LW and SW.
There is a 4 mast SW cross dipole antenna. Later some Yagi? antennas were attached to 2 towers. What is their purpose? Does the cross dipole still exist?
RTL switched off SW years ago.

Summer solstice bandscan 2023.
I went outside with the radio around 2325Z. After a hot and sunny last week, the weather turned cool, cloudy and foggy.
The LW band appeared rather poor, with only Allouis (162kHz), RUV (189kHz), BBC (198kHz) and a weird tic-tic-tic sound (spread over the band). The last one was soon tracked to a nearby Lexus.
The MW band was little better off. The only signals of good strength were those of Talk Sport on 1053 and 1089 kHz. Others were audible but not of living-room strength.
