“July’s Radio Caroline North broadcast from our radio ship Ross Revenge has now concluded, and we hope the power problems with our 648 transmitter didn’t spoil your enjoyment too much.
Many thanks to our listeners, sponsors, presenters and Manx Radio for use of their AM transmitter.
We hope to see you for the next Caroline North broadcast and Annual Fundraiser from Ross Revenge over the weekend of 11th-13th August.”

CME IMPACT AND GEOMAGNETIC STORM: Arriving a full day earlier than expected, a CME hit Earth’s magnetic field on July 16th: data. The impact at 1920 UT caused a 20 nT jolt in the USGS’s magnetometer at Fredericksburg, Virginia, and a G1-class geomagnetic storm. More CME impacts are possible on July 17th and 18th due to multiple recent eruptions from big sunspot AR3363.

252 kHz back on now!
I’m listening to the station right now in Limerick, Ireland. Continual playlist of Italian 80’s dance-pop tunes. Signal is stronger than I have ever observed since RTE stopped broadcasting on the same frequency. Hopefully the most recent outage was for genuine maintenance reasons and that the transmitter will stay the course.

Syria

Some good news from Middle East.
Syrian Radio has resumed it’s transmissions on both of  it’s two frequencies:
567 kHz “Radio Damascus” and 666 kHz  “Sawt AL-Shabab”.

It seems that the cause of temporary outage  was a technical reason for maintenance. Now, the modulation is better than it was in a past and a sound quality is good also.
Here is a video file with recording from car radio. Received in north-eastern part in Israel.

Egypt / Saudi Arabia

Monitoring via TWR Cyprus SDR:
(Re. https://mediumwave.info/2023/06/06/egypt-7/)

Around 1030 UTC there was on 621 kHz a signal with music, apparently a concert recording. Typical ERTU “quality”. The once known streaming adresses from them no longer work, thus no confirmation of the programming was possible (there are ERTU offers listed that could fit). Apparently no high power, the signal was at least 10 dB weaker than 558 kHz and the difference to 819 kHz was even higher. And at 1050 it was gone again. By the way, 774 kHz was found similarly weak.

And one other note: At a glance it seems that in Saudi Arabia all mediumwave outlets for international coverage have been turned off. Which is remarkable in light of the current efforts to put Sudan programming on MW. Al Arabiya is a separate entity, but their new radio operation has already been put not only on FM but also on shortwave, so that does not appear to be a hindrance. Thus I wonder if the Cyprus 639 kHz tests are just a marketing effort from the side of Encompass.

A VERY ACTIVE SUNSPOT: A new hyperactive sunspot is producing M-class solar flares every few hours. This is causing shortwave radio blackouts around all longitudes of our planet. If current trends continue, an X-flare could be in the offing. Full story @ Spaceweather.com.
