Venezuela

750 YVKS RCR Radio Caracas Radio has said goodbye to its listeners. Years ago the government closed its transmissions on 750 kHz but the station continued to broadcast online through the internet, but through new conditions, the authorities have now made it largely impossible to continue even via the internet. Radio Caracas Radio 750 AM, the second oldest station in Venezuela, has therefor now closed.

Many of you will know that my 24/7 online station, Radio Six International, is also relayed on FM in New Zealand and shortwave in Germany and Australia. For our 60th anniversary on June 6th we ran 24 hours on 9,670kHz from Rohrbach in Germany but also the main live show of the day was carried on 1,323kHz (226m) from Villa Estense in Italy between 19:00 and 21:00 UTC.
We’ve now completed sending out QSL and eQSL cards and 21 of these related to reports for 1,323. Ten countries were logged. (A total of 117 reception reports from 24 countries covered the 24 hour period.)
Our MW audience was higher than I had expected so we’re now considering periodic (perhaps quarterly) special broadcasts on AM. Got to keep the band alive!
I thought members might find it interesting to see things from the broadcaster’s perspective.

Radio Caroline.
Ross Revenge is in a race against time and the elements to get into dry dock. This video https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=997134871298801 shows Studio 1 on board Ross Revenge on Friday, after a few days of heavy rain. The crew spent the weekend removing 45 gallons of water from the studios and drying them out with dehumidifiers before risking firing up the studios on Sunday. Despite some equipment being affected by the damp, essential equipment was thankfully unaffected and things are still on course for next weekend’s live broadcast. The water came through the deck above the bridge and chart room, which is known as Monkey Island. One of the decks that needs replacing in dry dock. We can try and patch it up but with winter coming we can expect more leaks in a number of areas of the ship.
If you would like to help us get Ross Revenge into dry dock and ensure her future you can visit our Crowdfunder page here – crowdfunder.co.uk/p/ross-revenge-dry-docking
As always, donations of any amount are very welcome

France

The epic story of one of France’s most successful radio stations is reconstructed in the book ‘EUROPE 1De la singularité au déclin (1955-2022)’, written by Philippe GIildas, French journalist and columnist. The broadcaster was founded in 1954 by Charles Michelson, a visionary entrepreneur who was already thinking about Europe and television. But he is an awkward character and the government bars his way, making Sylvain Floirat, owner of the Matra aeronautics group, take his place. Floirat is also a man of great qualities and makes the station grow further. Among his employees is Jean-Luc Lagardère, a young engineer who takes over in the mid-1970s, continuing to develop the winning format and consolidating the station’s success.

Kuban Radio Center.
The antenna worked with the RV-680 transmitter, at a frequency of 1170 kHz in the direction of the Middle East. Power 1200 kW. The program was broadcast: “Voice of Russii”. For 2023, the antenna system has been decommissioned, the transmitter has been dismantled.

The Zarya system is directional. Previously used at many radio centers, if necessary, zonal broadcasting.
To date, the only “Zarya” as part of the FSUE RTRS is used at the Pridnestrovian Radio and Television Center – 1548 kHz, 1000 kW. The azimuth of the main lobe is 245 degrees, the direction is the Balkans. Despite the European direction, the signal is well received in the European part of Russia.
The largest “Dawn” was in the Irkutsk Radio Center # 7: 37 towers

Space Weather

GEOMAGNETIC STORM WATCH: Minor G1-class geomagnetic storms are possible on July 13th when a CME is expected to pass close to Earth. NASA and NOAA models of the CME give different results. NASA predicts a glancing blow, NOAA a clean miss. Either way, a close encounter could disturb Earth’s magnetic field and produce high latitude auroras.
