549 KHz is usually dominated by strong 2CR ABC Orange (Cumnock, NSW) at 50 kW. 2CR is a entertainment quality signal via pure ground wave during all daylight hours into NW Sydney. The Sangean PRD3 receives it well using the inbuilt ferrite rod antenna.

Last evening around 11:30 pm, the PK 65 cm circular PVC loop was tuned to peak at 549 KHz. The PRD3 by trial was placed at various distance positions to the side of the PK loop. By aiming the loop NW, and the PRD3 North, 549 KHz Gold Sport, Nelson, NZ (1 kW) could be clearly heard over 2CR. Unlike most songs on the radio, I recognised every song on 549 KHz Gold Sport. They seem to concentrate on the 1960s and 1970s. The ability to almost completely null out 2CR Orange, should enable the CNR5 Putian, China (1200 kW) TX when conditions permit.
