1287 KHz, Galei Tzahal. Quite a surprise last night. Firstly, in hearing something on 1287 and secondly, hearing Israel with such strength. In the next clip, you can hear the ID by the woman *Galei Tzahal* at sec 34:

Romanian MW survey.
Sunday morning from 5 to 6 UTC, there was a Romanian programme that was extraordinary. Old nannies chatting and laughing, interviews of (presumed) peasants, “a capella” religious anthems from elderly women (you could hear the church bells in the background), different forms of folklore, inventive and picturesque. Somehow it did not sound like the regular Radio Cluj which has a tendency to mix Romanian pop with International pop (not as often as Romania Actualitati but there’s the sad Western trend). After a good series of musical and (almost ethnographic) nuggets I heard “Aici Radio Targu Mures”.Then a few mns before 0600 UTC; an heterodyne spoiled 1593 khz and at 0600 sharp a stronger broadcaster announced Radio Cluj and Targu Mures was drowned.
today (lunes [Monday]) 1600/ 1620 UTC
1593 Cluj in Romanian , dominant, small split-second synchro problem between Sibiu and Oradea
1530 Romania Actualitat (RACT> national main programme ) Radauti (Bucovina) + Constanta
1404 Cluj dominant (//1593)
1323 Radio Marosvasahely, Targu Mures in Hungarian
1314 Antena Satelor (Timisoara + Constanta)
1152 RACT Cluj
1053 unknown programme, folklore (most likely IASI which I heard there on sunday afternoon)
945 RACT Miercurea
855 RACT Bucarest
756 RACT Lugoj
720 RACT (very weak) Nufaru + Baia Mare + Sinaia)
630 Timisoara in the morning
radio Timisoara is very interesting in the morning with local new from Banat province, it gives temperatures in Timisoara, Lugoj and Arad. The ID is “radio Rômania Regionale, Timisoara)

China AM English IDs and Pips Compilations.
Within the next week, barring any unforeseen catastrophes, I should be releasing my China AM ID Database, a project I began in May 2021 and is all but complete now and will be posted here when officially finished.
With a final total of 52 hours of audio and 1,514 station ID clips including 95.6% of the Chinese AM band, 95.6% of the Taiwanese band, and 100% of the Hong Kong band, I find that these two audio compilations of interesting IDs would probably get lost in the extensive lists of stations and content if posted all at once. Therefore, I wish to share them both beforehand as a preview and just as something of interest for those who are curious about the state of Chinese radio nowadays. They are perhaps the most Western-friendly of all audio clips in the project.
I’ve got two compilations here, totaling 1hr 21min of audio that I have put together:
First, there is the English ID compilation with English IDs of 61 stations in China. English isn’t the norm on Chinese radio, so when you hear it – especially if you understand no Chinese – it truly stands out. I think people abroad would enjoy it most of all, being able to understand something, anything at all. This is 29 minutes of audio.
http://www.chriskadlec.com/media/radio/audio/china/Compilations_English.mp3
Second is the non-standard time pips compilation. Time pip patterns differ across all stations; even stations owned by the same broadcasting companies often use different pip patterns. While the standard is 5 short + 1 long, only 27% of all stations actually use this pattern. 33% of stations utilize no pips at all. Yes, I did the math myself. 17% of stations use abnormal (non-standard) pip patterns and/or combine them with music or jingles, use clock ticks, doorbells, and all sorts of little oddities. This compilation includes those stations, with 51 minutes of audio spanning 101 stations.
https://www.chriskadlec.com/media/radio/audio/china/Compilations_Pips.mp3
I truly hope these can provide someone with a little education and/or entertainment. It’s literally less than 2% of all the audio I have on this upcoming webpage.

Audacy has reached agreement with its debt-holders on a prepackaged restructuring and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
As part of the restructuring, Audacy expects to drop its debt from approximately $1.9 billion down to $350 million. The company is expecting the bankruptcy court to hold a confirmation hearing in February and emerge from Chapter 11 upon FCC approval.
The company states that “operations will continue in the ordinary course throughout the restructuring process”, while trade and other unsecured creditors will not be impaired. The company’s common stock currently traded over-the-counter will continue to trade through the Chapter 11 process, but are expected to be canceled upon the completion of the restructuring.

Galei Tzahal resumes MW 1287.
The original 1287 kHz transmitter somewhere around Tel Aviv has been closed around 2005. Keeping it was probably as impossible as in the case of the 1200 kW on 738 kHz that used to carry Arabic programming of Kol Israel. But this is a question for those with more detailed archives.
Replacement for the former facility was a transmission from the Yavne station (the one that was until 2013 active also on shortwave). Interestingly they did not use 1287 kHz again but now 945 kHz, the mediumwave frequency used by Voice of Hope from southern Lebanon (or Southern Lebanon or South Lebanon or Free Lebanon or whatever) until 2000. Would be interesting to hear how this worked in regard to ITU regulations – I would assume that this region was until 2000 considered as under Israelian sovereignty, although presumably those in Geneve would never confirm such an approach.
The use of 1287 kHz by Voice of Hope, started in 2017, ceased at yearend 2019 or very early in 2020. I suspect they would, when being asked about it, tell that the continued reference to “1287 AM” is merely part of the branding (and yes, I have an opinion about such a practice). At least in their latest circular they acknowledge that streaming and social media are the only remaining distribution platforms:
https://www.voiceofhope.com/vlog/20231108n-bts.html
The transmitter installed for Voice of Hope has been revealed by a photo as a Nautel NX-50. For 945 kHz from Yavne, closed around 2015, 100 kW had been listed. So mentions of 50 and 100 kW as current transmission powers are presumably speculations, drawn from the assumption that the equipment in use until ca. 2015 and 2019, respectively, has been reactivated as it was.
Kai Ludwig to WOR iog (2024-01-06)
As from 10th January 2024 the transmitter on 819 kHz will carry Radio Calcio FVG (ex 1503 kHz) while Radio Metropolis (ex 819 kHz) returns back on 1503 kHz. Both transmitters are located in Trieste, in the North East of Italy.

Mid-West Family Broadcasting has flipped Rhythmic CHR “95.9 Jamz” 1150 WEAQ/95.9 W240DC Chippewa Falls WI to Farm News/Classic Country “The Farm“.
Northpine reports that the station is featuring the Mid-West Farm Report at the top and bottom of each hour, while the hourlong edition continues on sister Country 104.5 WAXX. That’s station’s longtime farm reporter Bob Bosold is serving as imaging voice of WEAQ.
The new format replicates the programming heard on the company’s 1550 WHIT/97.7 W249DH Madison.

Re. Galei Tzahal resumes MW 1287 in Israel.
The 1287 frequency was selected for VOH because it allowed high power operation consistent with the ITU regulations. It is assigned to and was previously used by the IDF, and it seems likely that this present use is from the VOH facility, which is in northern Israel, triplexed with 882 and 1458 kHz at a site owned/operated by the Israeli communications facility company Bezeq.
