BBC on 198 still on air.

The BBC has announced the end of long-wave only broadcasts (such as TMS, the Daily Service, some of the Shipping Forecasts and Yesterday in Parliament) from 31st March 2024.

Last summer the TMS presenters were at pains to point out regularly that “this would be the last summer in which cricket would be available on Long Wave”.

When the transmissions will end on Long Wave is not clear. The Radio Teleswitch service for changing tariff rates of electricity meters may be the limiting factor.

Unless power is reduced significantly there wouldn’t be major cost savings. And the transmitters are time limited due to lack of spare parts.

“The BBC radio service that supports RTS meters is being phased out and is planned to end 31 March 2025.” According to Ofgem website

The exact switch off date has not been announced,  possibly the second quarter of 2024.
