BBC Radio 4 MW closures 15th April
Latest Radio Times has an article Calling Listeners on Long Wave starting No it’s not as April Fool hoax, from April 1st will no longer be broadcasting some programmes seperately on Radio 4 long wave while others go out on FM. As well as the details of where the separate programmes will be broadcast includes:
That’s not to say your trusty transistor radio will be more and more redundant as the long wave platform won’t be closing for a while yet…..
The BBC first began broadcasting on long wave from 1925 from a transmitter in Daventry Northamptonshire. Today three transmitters, owned by private firm Arqiva, broadcast on long wave and Arqiva say “significant further investment” would be needed to continuing doing so after 36 years of energy intensive operation.

Not yet, as I told in another group, RUV replied that the servicemen are working on it to get it back on the air.
And now – 1245 UTC – they are back.

600 QC Montreal CFQR Montreal’s The Suburban newspaper announced that the station is finally moving away from its decade-long preparation for regular programming with the movement and expansion of a local podcast to the station beginning at 1100 on March 12th. But the article’s real surprise was this: “Phil Richards is the new owner of CFQR AM 600”.
Either the CRTC has not yet announced its approval of the ownership change, or the station risks losing its license for allowing a new owner to take control before CRTC approval. A little research turned up a mid-January The Suburban article reporting the station purchase agreement was awaiting CRTC approval at that time.
1060 AB Calgary CKMX Went off the air forever last June, leaving the frequency open for an AM station application in response to the CRTC’s Call for Applications. Like CFCW-840 Camrose AB, there is a large and potentially profitable rural/agricultural audience that could be served by a 50KW signal.

Colombian station HJAA Emisora Fuentes 920 AM in Cartagena (Bolívar) with 10 kW, stopped operating on said channel. That is, it is Inactive. This station was part of the La Libertad Radio Network with headquarters in the city of Barranquilla (Atlántico). It is one more loss that AM radio suffers in our country.
