Radio station KRMO tower collapses
Murray Bishoff, Lawrence County Record 25.10.2024
Station owners switch transmissions, vow to rebuild.
{990 kHz, Cassville, SW corner of Missouri}

The fallen KRMO radio tower barely missed the tower shack as it fell and twisted on Oct. 24. Dewayne Gandy praised the Monett Electrical Department’s wiring of the facility, which shut off power to the spot immediately without disrupting service to the neighborhood. Monett Utilities Superintendent Skip Schaller observed fallen wiring could have easily started a fire under current dry conditions.

Around 8 a.m. on Oct. 24, the broadcast tower for KRMO radio in Monett, located next to the southern edge of the IOOF Cemetery, toppled to the ground. Investigation into the incident is continuing.
Dewayne Gandy, one of the owners of Eagle Broadcasting, was mowing grounds at the time and watched the tower, erected in October 1949, fall. A guy wire supporting the tower broke, flipping over adjacent power lines, causing the tower to sway then fall to the northwest, barely missing the tower shack housing the station transmitters.
Gandy, who has been mowing that field for 21 years, said he subsequently checked and found the mower had not touched the guy wires. He could not determine what caused the collapse. The tower was painted and new lights placed on it a year ago.
Fellow owner Janet Gandy said, “We’ve followed every protocol maintaining the tower, better than the
requirements.”
The radio station continued to transmit to the 42,000 listeners using the station’s mobile app. Broadcasts also continued without interruption on Monett Web TV, also available on YouTube. Dewayne Gandy expected to have a temporary tower erected on-site for the KRMO signal by the end of Oct. 24. Erecting a temporary tower for FM station KKBL was expected to take up to a week. Janet Gandy contacted the Federal Communications Commission and had KRMO transmissions switched to the tower for KSWM 940 AM in Aurora.
The Gandys provided reassurances that the station would continue service, including all subsequent football games the week of the collapse. They said the tower will be rebuilt on location.

Re.: https://mediumwave.info/2024/10/28/morocco-12/
I am on DXP in the Straits of Gibraltar area (Conil de la Frontera) and I have copied both last week, although with a low signall and bad modulation.
Which dates are both reported being off?

I first noticed them missing on Saturday 26th October.
I checked both 612 and 711kHz at 1130UTC, nothing from them on 612 but 711 is on with strong signal but with usual poor modulation.

I cannot say nothing about 711 now as I have no copy of that at daytime because of the distance (just in the evening/ night), but 612 kHz is putting a strong signal in Cádiz province right now. I find that Méknes is perhaps too far from you to allow a daytime copy now, so perhaps you will get the station late in the evening.

After flipping Classical “K-Mozart1260 KMZT Beverly Hills/Los Angeles to Classic Country earlier this fall, Mount Wilson FM Broadcasters has taken the brand’s remaining signals and has gone all-Christmas.
105.1 KKGO-HD2 and 98.3 K252FO Los Angeles are now running a playlist of holiday standards through December 31. The translator covers the majority of Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley such as Canoga Park, Encino, North Hollywood, Northridge, and Van Nuys. In previous years, the company did all-Christmas on “Go Country 105” KKGO-FM from after Thanksgiving until Christmas. iHeartMedia AC 103.5 KOST is the usual market leader with Christmas music in Los Angeles.

As to why they started on October 25, Mount Wilson FM Broadcasters owner Saul Levine told the LA Daily News, “We want to get a jump on the competition.”
KKGO-HD2/K252FO was not the first station in the country to go all-Christmas as New Albany Broadcasting Company’s 1570 WLRS New Albany IN and 92.5 W223DK Louisville KY began so on October 11.

For the last few days I have observed that both 612 and 711kHz from Morocco have been off air. Here in Lanzarote 711 is normally one of the strongest stations received during the day although at times.
It’s modulation is very poor. 711 is normally almost as strong as the local Canarian stations.
It has however allowed for good reception of of WIOD 610 in the early mornings, but not noted the usually received WOR 710.

A word of apology to all Radio North listeners, unfortunately due to technical difficulties we are experiencing reduced power to our signal on 846mw and also problems with our online streaming services.
We are currently trying to have these problems rectified and hope to restore our programming to full power soon.
We thank you all for your patience during these works.

Re.: Jamming? https://mediumwave.info/2024/10/24/jamming-3/
UPDATE: It’s DRM, possibly two different DRM stations on the same frequency.  Earlier tonight, the Dimapur SDR said that it was Yunnan Broadcast, while according to other SDRs in East Asia, it was called AMDrm.  Currently the Dimapur SDR and some of the East Asian SDRs no longer detect DRM on that frequency.  Could there be two DRM stations interfering with each other?

BIG SUNSPOTS AND AN X-FLARE: A big group of new sunspots exploded this morning, producing an X3.3-class solar flare and an impressive CME. The CME will graze Earth on Oct. 26th, possibly causing a geomagnetic storm. More flares are in the offing as the sunspot group turns toward Earth. Full story @ Spaceweather.com.
