The end of MW broadcasting from Denmark.
Radio208 will be closed down in the course of May 2025 – so 1440 kHz (currently 300 Watts; previously 650 Watts) will go silent. After having been on the air since December 17th 2019.
1422 in Central Copenhagen has already been switched off some weeks ago. It never worked as anticipated.
And World Music Radio (WMR) stopped broadcasting on 927 kHz some six months ago; and will not return. WMR will however continue on shortwave and through internet streaming.
There are several reasons for closing Radio208. First – it is very expensive to run two radio stations. For the past few years I have paid some 530 euro monthly for music royalties. Second – some “anti-broadcast DXers” (no MW stations in my backyard please!) have been opposing the use of 1440 from Copenhagen. Third: it would be very difficult to get a new experimental license for MW from the Danish authorities as of July 1st 2025 (obtaining a permanent license is not possible). And fourth: I want to concentrate on WMR, as well as a new local, non-commercial FM-station (which actually will generate a bit of income from government funding – instead of Radio208 generating a lot of expenses).
