The Swedish Asfalttelegrafen has a new frequency. The signal was first heard in Salzburg after 2230 UTC on 1224 kHz. The frequency is well chosen since the Spanish stations are no longer active there. Before the broadcast begins at 2115 UT, the signal from Guangxi GD Jingli Guangbo in Nanning can be heard on 1224 kHz, but it can be easily filtered out. The signals from Radio Elvira and R 1224 from the Netherlands are correctly visible in the spectrum on their frequencies 1223.992 and 1224.022, respectively, but too weak for audio in the height of summer. Thus, Asfalttelegrafen, with its familiar Waltzing Matilda interval signal, can now finally be heard on a free frequency late in the evening – with a slightly variable start time – which didn’t always work well on the previously allocated frequencies of 1440 and 1494 kHz.
