Grindavik US Navy LF site 37.5 kHz
“I am told that the site shut down when the earthquakes got more intense and the ground started cracking. It calmed down for a while and it was fired it up again. Yesterday (the 19th) they shut down again. They do not appear to be in much danger of lava flow damage based on GoogeEarth and ground contours. However, ground movement might be an issue. There is fault which transits the site, but where in Iceland isn’t there a fault? “
(Just for your amusement, the Icelanders in the Westman Islands main city, Vestmannaeyjabær, actually stopped/diverted a lava flow a few years ago with extensive civil engineering work – lots of heavy equipment earth moving. I was told that was the only time that’s ever been successfully done.)
