Data from my friend John Schneider who is on a “world cruise”:
A friend who is a retired well-known broadcast hardware person is currently on a cruise and in French Polynesia. He sent me the following interesting item:
“I brought a good quality AM/SW radio with me. I am surprised to find that most of the AM signals I can hear in the South Pacific are coming from the USA. Many of the 50 KW stations make it down here – some likely due to their nighttime patterns, but also some clear channel ND’s. Interestingly, the high power stations above 1500 kHz are the strongest. I thought I would hear more from South America and Asia, but that is not the case.”
I’ve asked him to send me a list of those he can receive at some specific location or locations.

690 Mexican national anthem at midnight, probably XEWW
1540 strong station with Asian language and soft music, possibly KREA Honolulu”
His report of the 1540 station could also be KMPC Los Angeles whose day and night patterns radiate strongly toward the SW.
