AM stereo in Japan began on March 15 1991 using C-QUAM type. In the 1990’s there were 16 AM stereo stations(commercial stations only, no NHK stations) at most. In the 2000’s most stations ceased stereo operation. Nippon Hoso was the 3rd from the end. At this time only Radio Osaka(JOUF 1314kHz 50kW) and Wakayama Hoso(JOVF 1431kHz 5kW) are using AM stereo.
By the way Nippon Hoso can be heard in stereo on FM93.0MHz and internet (radiko – in Japan only).
