As a result of the heavy rainfall and consequent floods that have occurred in almost the entire territory of the City of Buenos Aires and Greater Buenos Aaires, during these last 48 hours, many Modulated Latitude radios have come out of the air. Today Sunday May 18, although the weather aspects in the affected areas have significantly improved, there are still many AM radios unreported. Among them can be cited:

810 KHz The 810 Radio (San Justo)
890 kHz Free Radio (San Justo)
1060 KHz, Radio Excelsior Buenos Aires (Monte Grande)
1080 kHz, Radio Clarity (Monte Grande)
1160 KHz, Radio La Most Santiagueña (Gregorio de Laferre)
1200 KHz, Radio Juventud (Florencio Varela)
1340 KHz, AM Reborn (Moreno)
1390 kHz Blue Rock AM 1390 (Freedom)
1570 kHz Rebel Radio (Engineer Budge)
1620 kHz Radio Sentires (San Martin Park)

These stations are expected to resume their emissions shortly, once the inconvenience caused by the heavy rains are overcome. Several FM stations also suffered the same consequences as a result of the fierce storm that hit the AMBA, and many of them have already returned to their broadcasts as normal.

After rescuing and rebuilding the station where she started her career in 1974 while in junior high school, Delilah Rene has surrendered the license of 1030 KDUN Reedsport OR telling the FCC that “after more than three years of operation, I’m not able to continue operating the radio station and provide the financial means to do so”.

Delilah purchased KDUN from Post Rock Communications for $60,000 in May 2021. At the time she noted that Reedsport had no newspaper, television or other radio station and hoped to “engage the entire town in the station, offering local programming and news, complete with local hosts.” She would relaunch the station in September 2021 documenting the rebuild of the station to operate in what was once her fifth grade classroom. The station had been featuring a local morning show hosted by station manager Bob Larson and Delilah’s program in evenings.

Radio Mundial [860 kHz], more than 70 years old, was taken off the air by instructions from Conatel and I, as governor, was a link for the Emisora Radio Mundial to return to the grid of the media that make life in this state,” said the governor of Tachira, Freddy Bernal.”
“The director of the station, Nelson Chacin, expressed his satisfaction at the return.
“I feel very happy, not only for me, but for the workers who, after 47 days (of interruption), are back on the air,” he said.”

1287 KHz 2TM Tamworth Moving To 95.5 MHz.
Credit to Paul Mech (Sawtell, NSW) for emailing details re a planned 1287 KHz (2 kW) AM to 95.5 MHz (20 kW) FM move.
During summertime tropospheric enhancement, 95.5 MHz 2TM should be heard many days in Sydney. A horizontal roof-top rotatable 8-element FM Yagi and TEF6686 tuner is used.
Time to start recording 1287 2TM for remembrance. Once MW switches off, they don’t come back.
There are some overseas stations on 1287 KHz that will sometime later this year be receivable for the first time.

Vista has taken full control of the Bell stations that they purchased in British Columbia, and none of the stations have changed format. All the AM stations are listed below. Most of them now use the ‘Summit’ branding that were formerly branded ‘Bounce,’ as Bell retained the ‘Bounce’ brand. Based on the new Vista station logos and web sites, the original press release and DXer reports, the ‘Summit’ branding appears to vary slightly from station-to-station depending on the frequency, used before or after “Summit,” and whether AM is mentioned.

580  CHAH  AB  Edmonton  –  4/27 0010-0013  –  Open  Carrier  from  when  tuned  in  until  0013.
Second time Open Carrier heard at beginning of same 0000-0100 Chinese language programming  block. Also  .  .  .  noticed  twice  recently  with  5-10  minutes  of  Open Carrier at the beginning of the 0001-0100 weeknight Chinese-language programming block. This station is worth watching by those where CHAH is dominant on 580. (JP-AB)
590  CFTK  BC  Terrace – Switched branding to ‘Summit.’
630  CFCO  ON  Chatham – Has been approved to move to FM on 91.3 MHz with 1250 Watts
non-directional from a height of 435 feet above average terrain. The customary three-month simulcast period has been made mandatory – area station that I could not hear in awful conditions, presumably indicating they were off the air.
700  CJLI  AB  Calgary – 5/5 2345 & 0020 – Was the only Calgary area station that I could not hear in awful conditions, presumably indicating they were off the air. (JP-AB)
800  CKOR  BC  Penticton – Has switched their branding to ‘Summit.’ Noted overnight April 29-
30 on their 10 kW non-directional day pattern.
870  CKIR  BC  Invermere  –  Has  switched  their  branding  to  ‘Summit.’  Any  mention  of  the
frequency will be “106.3” and call leer IDs will be “CKGR-FM,” as they rebroadcast CKGR-FM 106.3, Golden, BC.
880  CHED  AB  Edmonton – With the  NHL’s Edmonton Oilers still in the playoffs,  CHED is airing a lot of Oilers-based programming, as well as play-by-play of all Oilers games. Don’t get confused by the endless  mentions  of  “Rogers,”  a  competitor  to  CHED owner Corus, as they are the Canada-wide owner of the broadcast rights for NHL Hockey.
890  CJDC  BC  Dawson Creek – Their new slogan is “The Ranch AM 890.”
1150  CKFR  BC  Kelowna – Their slogan remains ‘AM 1150 News, Talk, Sports.’
1240  CJOR  BC  Osoyoos – Switched branding to ‘Summit.’
1340  CFKC  BC  Creston – Switched branding to ‘Summit.’ Any mention of the frequency will be “95.7” and their call letter IDs will be “CJAT-FM,” as they rebroadcast CJAT-FM 95.7 Trail, BC.
1400  CIOR  BC  Princeton – Has switched branding to ‘Summit.’ Any mention of frequency will be ‘800’ and call letter IDs will be ‘CKOR,’ as CIOR rebroadcasts CKOR 800 Penticton, BC.

Tonga

Tonga just before their sun rise 17:28UTC.
Here’s a report from our club TDXC’s recent DXpedition to Hachijo-jima (Island) off the coast of Tokyo, about 270km.
On May 11th (Sunday), the MW propagation condition from North America to TP/DU was reported as bad to worse by Nick Hall-Patch san, but it was an excellent night for us for North -South propagation. As some of you who also join RealDX group might have noted some posts there  from our  DXpedition too, here’s a sample recording of Tonga on 1017kHz around 17:28UTC, which our Shinzo Ushio san noticed first , with weather forecasts in English language. MW List shows its schedule is from 19:00 but it was on the air and was heard near to 18:00, their sun rise. We usually catch them at our early evening hours like 08:00-09:00UTC at this time of the year, so catching them at such hours was a surprise.

Cuba

Radio Martí is heard routinely on Cuba on AM on 1180 kHz, there are some funny situations that made that possible.
There is no secret on the long Cuba’s energy crisis, and as you may expect the local time 1700 (5pm) to 2100 (9pm) and some times up to 2300 (11pm) or later is the high demand period and they can’t supply the demand; then most of the country [but Havana, that is protected at all costs] got routinely blackout at that times.
As a result a few of the local AM transmitters get powered from diesel generators some times at reduced power; or usually just shut down altogether. Lately the AM transmitters are just powered off during the mentioned period and local diesel power is reserved for FM stations [also on reduced power].
So, almost every province has an AM transmitter on 1180 kHz to jam the Radio Martí one, but some AM listeners got a surprise when instead Radio Rebelde or a local station on the memory of his radio or they dial spot get Radio Martí, mind the surprise of the listeners.

Attached is a recording of right now, local Radio Rebelde Transmitter off and Radio Martí is coming strong, and here you have a picture of the SDR waterfall.
Receiver is a SDRplay with a 15m `long wire` connected to a 9:1 transformer for SW and MW monitoring, but you can pick it up decently with almost any AM radio, my PL-880 on local setting has no problem to hear Radio Martí on 1180 kHz most of the time.
So, with the blackouts they are turning off the jamming stations and at least in Camagüey Cuba it’s normal to hear it with battery operated radios.

73 and 88, a long time listener of your programs and lately an avid SW/MW listener

The station WWFE 670 AM (La Nueva Poderosa) makes important changes that will favour its tuning on the island of Cuba through its new frequency of the station WMYM 990 AM (Oasis 990). This decision has been taken by the management of the network to which both stations belong, the Salem Media Group corporation.
La Nueva Poderosa can now be heard on the new 990 khz frequency, in addition to the 670 and 1550 khz frequencies of WRHC Cadena Azul.
According to network officials. La Nueva Poderosa will officially move to the 990 khz medium wave on 9 June 2025 with more power than the 7.5 kw transmitter on that frequency. It is not yet clear whether La Nueva Poderosa will leave the 670 Khz, which has been its spot on the dial for more than 20 years.
With this frequency change to 990 Khz, La Nueva Poderosa will finally be able to be heard in Cuba, as its current frequency of 670 khz is heavily jammed by the island’s government with powerful Radio Rebelde transmitters in almost every province of the country. At present Cuba is not in a financial position to move its entire jamming infrastructure to a new frequency, so it is very likely that 990 will be able to bring Cubans the news from the Cuban community in South Florida, Cuba and the world without difficulty.
