Yesterday at 10 UTC I pulled the plug for Radio208 on 1440 kHz in Ishøj, and it’s not coming back. Internet streaming will cease on May 31st.
Last song played on 1440 from Ishøj: John Lennon – ‘Working Class Hero’

Strongest solar flare of 2025 erupts from sun.
The sun roared to life early Tuesday (May 14), unleashing a powerful X-class solar flare from a newly emerging sunspot region AR4087.
The eruption peaked at 4:25 a.m. EDT (0825 GMT), triggering strong R3-level radio blackouts across Europe, Asia and the Middle East – the sunlit side of Earth at the time – as sunspot region 2087 crackles with activity.
Solar flares of this magnitude are uncommon, according to the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC).
Solar flares are ranked by strength in five classes: A, B, C, M and X, with each step representing a tenfold increase in energy.
The recent X flare clocked in at X2.7, placing it at the lower end of the most powerful solar flare class.

For the past two weeks I’ve been using the Manila and Negros Occidental remote webSDRs to survey Filipino broadcasters on the mediumwave band in both locations. In Manila it was noted that DWDD Armed Forces Radio (aka Katropa Radyo) is no longer heard on mediumwave, being untraced on its former frequency of 1134kHz or elsewhere on the band. DZUP University Radio was also absent on 1602kHz, but this may possibly due to their low power (1 kW) and/or them possibly broadcasting only on specific school days. Here are my observations using the Manila receiver:
531 DZBR Bible Radio, Manila
558 DZXL RMN, Makati
594 DZBB Super Radyo, Quezon City
630 DWPM Radyo 630, Quezon City
666 DZRH MBC, Pasay
684 DWJJ 684, Cabanatuan
702 DZAS FEBC, Pasig
738 DZRB PBS Radyo Pilipinas 1, Quezon City
774 DWWW, San Juan
792 DWGV GVAM 792, Angeles
810 DZRJ Radyo Bandido, Makati
828 DZTC Radyo Pilipino, Tarlac
846 DZRV Veritas 846, Quezon City
882 DWIZ, Pasig
918 DZSR PBS Radyo Pilipinas 2, Quezon City
954 DZEM INC Radio, Quezon City
1062 DZEC Radyo Agila, Quezon City
1098 DWAD Now Radio, Mandaluyong
1134 DWDD Armed Forces Radio, Quezon City – inactive
1206 DWAN Radyo ng Bagong Pilipinas, Quezon City
1242 DWBL, Mandaluyong
1278 DZRM PBS Radyo Pilipinas 3 Radyo Magasin, Quezon City
1314 DWXI Delta Broadcasting System, Makati
1350 DZXQ Radyo La Verdad, Quezon City
1458 DZJV Radyo Calabarzon, Calamba
1494 DWAR Abante Radyo, Quezon City
1530 DZME 1530, Pasig
1602 DZUP University Radio, Quezon City – untraced
Now the observations made using the webSDR in Negros Occidental province:
630 DYWB Bombo Radyo, Bacolod
684 DYEZ Aksyon Radyo, Bacolod
747 DYHB RMN, Bacolod
774 DYRI RMN, Iloilo
837 DYFM Bombo Radyo, Iloilo
1035 DYRL, Bacolod
1080 DZRH MBC, Bacolod
1143 DYAF 1143, Bacolod
1233 DYVS FEBC Sweet Voice of Salvation, Bacolod
1323 DYSI Super Radyo, Iloilo
1404 DYKB Radyo Ronda, Bacolod
My thanks go to the operators of both webSDRs for making them available to the public. New audio clips featuring identification announcements of many of the above stations can be heard on the Philippines page of the Interval Signals Online website at https://intervalsignals.net

I rechecked 1449kHz via an NZL SDR, which was receiving RNZ Palmerston North previously, early this morning, and the frequency was clear of signals, which indicates the station must have since been switched off.
I was able to hear and record 1449kHz RNZ from two separate online SDRs before it closed, with one of the SDRs being based in Palmerston North providing local reception.
Unfortunately, No loop tape has been heard on 1449kHz at all.
Here in Melbourne, when recently checking 1449kHz, there was short reception heard of 6TAB Mandurah WA AUS, though nothing else.

Radio 4 Droitwich – technical problems this afternoon.
Yes there is a problem. It is most likely the Droitwich transmitter, sounding distorted and breaking up.
Here it is http://195.171.67.227:8075/?f=198.000amnz8
The Scottish transmitter is sounding OK:

Re.: https://mediumwave.info/2025/05/12/unid-45/
With reference to the above posting to-day, this is most likely to be irregular broadcasts from “Radio Blackbeard“, which sometimes transmits on 1476 khz., previously used on this frequency by “Carillon Radio”, Leicestershire. I often listen to this “pirate” briefly out of curiosity, which has few announcements, but it is a loud and clear signal here in West Bridgford, Nottingham, England, so it must be transmitting from somewhere in the East Midlands!

I could hear them both last night via Cyprus KiwiSDR.

I’ve had my first nitetime session in the shack since Christmas and on 1494 khz can hear what sounds like an english pirate playing dance music. The signals too weak for a positive ID, lots of thunder static tonite

Here is some more news regarding changes to New Zealand AM radio stations.
846kHz Newstalk ZB Masterton NZL has closed its AM frequency and now operates on FM.
1449kHz RNZ National Palmerston North NZL has closed its AM frequency and now operates on FM. (This was due to switch off 12/5/25).
Just of interest, Sanctuary NZL stations also identify occasionally as Rhema Media, which can be a bit confusing at times.
