At 06.03.2026 IRIB TV1 sound was broadcasted on 900 kHz during the evening instead of IRIB R. Quran, the normal programming (Quran) was back at 2130 UTC.

By the way, almost all IRIB stations are on air, including Ilam, Kordestan and Golestan, which missed during the previous scan. The programmings are slightly changed – less patriotic chants, more Quran recitations and soft instrumental music – as I observed.

New RSL station: Outreach Gold has just opened a brand new studio in Chandler’s Ford and is currently conducting test transmissions on 1557 kHz medium wave. It will start regular broadcasts from Friday 6th March. They are currently playing classic hits mostly from the 70s and the 80s, with intermittent announcements of their test transmission. I am not sure of the transmitter power, but I can hear it clearly because I live locally (Southampton).
Ofcom adds, “Outreach Gold will operate as a vintage radio station showcasing music and content
from the 1950s to the 1980s to the The Hilt, Hiltingbury Community Centre, in Hampshire SO53
5NP.”
The website is https://www.outreachgold.co.uk/join/ They are also online and on DAB. Any reports welcome.

Medium Wave News March 2026 (2026-03-06)

France

Given the incessant closure of MW stations, Radio Six International [1467 kHz] wants, in its own small way, to do something constructive about it.  For many years now we’ve had regular broadcasts on shortwave (latterly an hour every Saturday night) but we are hoping to switch to medium wave across Europe.  Not easy, we know, as although even very low powered stations like Chichester Hospital Radio appear in the Eurolog, we want to make the listening experience easy and comfortable for as much of Europe as possible. So we’re doing a test on SATURDAY 7th MARCH between 23:00 and 00:00 GMT.  The transmitter is at Roumoules in France, the power is 1,000kW and the beam is 325 degrees.  That ought to provide a decent signal on small ferrite aerials in most of the continent except the Netherlands, where stations like Radio Paradijs use the same frequency.  Do let us know what reception is like via the group message board.  If the results of the test are encouraging, we plan a weekly programme at this time on this transmitter.

Medium wave is not dead!

Looks like CJVB, Vancouver on 1470 pulled the plug at approximately 07:46 UTC early this morning, 5th of March, 2026 after a continuous English/Mandarin loop announcement.  Unfortunately, my recorder didn’t listen to that final sign-off.  My last clip was to 07:06 UTC only,  At 07:55 when my next wav file starts, they were gone.  Tonight, the dominant station is KBSN, Moses Lake, WA including other cochannel stations, too.
Good bye, CJVB!

According to my SDR recording, CJVB ended its loop announcement at 0721 UTC (11:21 pm local time).  Kind of a weird time to end it.  My guess is whoever was responsible logged in from their laptop, and shut it off just before going to bed.
There were lots of weak stations audible with CJVB gone, but the only ID I heard was from KELA Centralia, WA, which is my closest station on 1470 and the likely source of Fox news and a talk show.  Others could be easily guessed: country (KBSN Moses Lake WA), Punjabi (KIID Sacramento), Spanish (XERCN Tijuana),  and some other music format (no idea).
Conditions weren’t that great, but future nights will hopefully be more promising.

In a phone conversation this afternoon/Thurs, a techie I’ve known for decades at Fairchild’s engineering contractor (i.e. longtime CJVB engineer) confirms he personally turned the tx off while on site at 11.45 pm PST Wed 4 Mar/0745 UT Thurs 5 Mar.  He was unsure of the exact time the loop was stopped as that was actioned by Fairchild from their studios… and the tx had been OC when he arrived at No. 8 Road/River Road, Richmond.

Iran

Iran observationes 3 March
Many Iranians were audible last night in Europe, even some I have never heard before like national Radio Iran on 1548 and 1557. Missing here: 1278 Kermanshah (blocked by Ukraine), 1197 Ardabil, 972/1395 Ilam and 1368 / 1539 Golestan. Might have been there but not heard. Kerman and Quizvin are NOT audible here most of the time.

Radio Yazd 747 kHz was opting out from the central programme of all regional stations around 22:20 UTC in the middle of the broadcast. Radio Quran 900 kHz had its own programming (Imam) with frequency ID announcement at 2227 UTC. Radio ChB 756 kHz gave a voice ID at 2232 UTC, introducing its own follow-up programme. Payam 1188 and Tehran 1332 followed their own schedule.

Definitely ACTIVE were 558 (at least 3 or more transmitters causing echoes), 585, 900, 1071, 1188, 1332 plus the regional outlets on 657, 747, 756, 774, 783, 801, 819, 837, 873 (not Tabriz), 891, 927, 936, 945, 981 (strong!), 1026, 1062, 1467, 1494 and 1512.

864 (clandestine broadcast in Persian towards Iran, presumed originating from Armenia) had a current reports programme with interviews around 2218 UTC.
