At 0130ut on 24 May 2026 IRIB provincial station Radio Khuzestan was observed on 711kHz, broadcasting in Persian at this time – Khuzestan province is home to a large Arab minority so likely carries Arabic programming at various times. WRTH and MW List currently have this frequency listed as “inactive”.

COPE Almería on 1224 is now carrying a retune loop.
Some curious behavior noted from COPE Huelva in the last few days: sometimes a retune loop, sometimes normal programming. I wasn’t sure if I was mishearing one of the two other COPE outlets when finding that. But after the closedown of Lugo on Monday 22nd it was unambiguously Huelva being retrograde. It’s on its loop announcement right now.

COPE: Along with Lugo’s EAK58, and EAK14 Huelva (both 1224 kHz), recently announced in mediumwave.info, I had knowledge of more closings in this end of June, 2026.

Burgos is inviting to tune 95,5; Miranda 105,2; Aranda 99,1 and Merindades 94,5 Mhz. Jaén, to 94,2 MHz.
In my QTH (Valencia), I can only hear the loops of Burgos and Jaén.

With the two stations in Canary Islands (837 and 882), those are, more or less, the remaining transmitters of a network who had in the 80s to till 2013, about 45 outlets, one in almost every Spanish province. What a decadence!

Summer solstice bandscan 2026.
Woke up this morning, thinking “Filesystemcheck! Forgot the bandscan last night!” and then remembered the solstice was today.
Got outside at about 2340Z to dry and cool-ish weather, a change from rainy last week. Hoping for a warm July.
The LW band… Do I even need to mention that anymore, with the Usual Suspects still being a trio?
The MW band… Barely audible from 531 kHz until R. Wales on 882 kHz. Wales and TalkSport (1053/1089 kHz) were the only stations listenable on the Panny tranny.And that was the lot of it.

After closing on their purchase of Full Service AAA 1410 KRML Carmel/94.7 K234DH Monterey CA, Rhonda Howard-Vachon and Guy Craig Vachon’s El Avance LLC has set their plans for the station.
Craig Vachon said, “After 40 years in high tech, buying a terrestrial FM radio station probably makes me look even more like a knucklehead to my peers. But that’s the point. In a world obsessed with frictionless, algorithmic echo chambers, something human, local, relevant, and genuinely alive matters more than ever. Algorithms treat music like a frozen dinner—predictable, optimized for mass consumption, and fast. KRML is your neighborhood restaurant. We serve comfort, yes, but our real specialty is introducing you to a new favorite you didn’t even know you were craving.”
The Vachons state that no changes will be made to the station’s programming, airstaff, or musical direction. They said the station will “evolve into a multichannel civic and cultural engagement hub—a place listeners can take with them wherever they are, across airwaves, digital platforms, and in-person experiences”. Other changes will include expanded digital and social media presences, deepened partnerships with local artists, venues, cultural, and non-profit organizations, create new opportunities for community participation—on-air and off, and strengthen its role as a connector of people, music, and places.
Rhonda Howard-Vachon followed, “The voices our listeners have grown to trust and love—Jasmine and Jeff, who guide that discovery—and the spirit of the station aren’t going anywhere. We’re simply here to support it, grow it, and invite the community to become even closer.”
Made famous in the Clint Eastwood movie “Play Misty For Me’, the Vachons purchased the station from KRML Radio LLC or $64,000 with $10,000 in cash and $54,000 worth of advertising credits spread out as $1500 per month for 36 months.

Regarding Spain’s COPE network on 1224 kHz, this evening (Saturday 20th) I am hearing a retune loop from COPE Lugo and another loop from COPE Huelva.
The COPE Almería outlet on 1224 has normal programming right now – fútbol of course.

590 returns to the air in Omaha.
First noted this afternoon, doing exactly what I suspected they might eventually do — simulcasting Walnut Media’s “Boomer Radio”, already heard on KXCB-1420 (as of a few weeks ago) and KIBM 1490.
At a Boomer Radio listener party back on April 25, I asked Walnut Media President/CEO Patrick Combs about the recent purchase of the 590 frequency. Not wanting to divulge too much, he said with a wry smile, “Changes ARE coming. As they say in the business, ‘Stay tuned for further developments.'”
Because the legal ID recording has not been changed yet, the company, for now, is simply dropping in the following: “Boomer Radio on AM 590, WOW, Omaha“. I don’t know if this means that Walnut Media was successful in their effort to petition the FCC to bring back the nostalgic calls, but one has to wonder. IMHO, they wouldn’t be mentioning “WOW” with no mention of “KXSP” if they hadn’t been. 590 in Omaha had been dark for 1 day short of 4 months.

Gee Communications signed off Classic Country “The Point” 1340 WHAP/96.9 W245CU Hopewell VA on June 7 as owner David Gee is retiring and seeking a buyer.
Gee told the Petersburg Progress-Index, “I’m retiring and it’s time for new ownership to come in and take a swing at it.” While the station itself has signed off, its daily format, the syndicated Saturday morning “Into The Blue” Bluegrass show, and Sunday church services are still being made available via stream.
WHAP had featured a local morning show hosted by Gordon Finney. other local specialty music shows, and a weekend sports talk show. That “Bottom Line Sports Talk” will move to SummitMedia’s “ESPN 106.1” W291CL/WURV-HD2 Richmond on Sunday mornings in August.
The station is being offered for sale by a local real estate agent. Gee will retain Classic Country 800 WSVS/97.1 W246BZ Crewe VA.

Following the closure of Radio Nacional de España stations, and now the imminet closure of COPE, the only medium wave station remaining in the province of Lugo will be Radio Lugo, Cadena Ser, 1287 kHz.
